It is my understanding that in 1903 Sir William Coaker founded the Fisherman's Protective Union (F.P.U.) in an Orange Hall in Herring Neck. And I believe Sir William Coaker was also an Orangeman.

FPU Flag

[edit]

To have the flag incorporated in the article would be a great addition... if only we knew who can obtain/create a facsimile? Check here for the likeness. --HJKeats (talk) 19:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's one. The rules involving licencing are a mystery to me though. Reggie Perrin (talk) 09:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You could contact the Maritime History Archive for clarification of the image's copyright status, if necessary. But I suspect this should at least qualify as fair use, or possibly even as public domain by now. Bearcat (talk) 10:01, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Assessment rating

[edit]

Why would this article rate as Low on the Importance scale.... IMHO, I would assess it at High given the importance of the movement in NL history. --HJKeats (talk) 15:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada's practice is to assess and assign importance rankings by class of article rather than by subjectively assessing the importance of each individual topic. That is, historical political parties all get the same importance ranking, regardless of whether individual users think some of them are more important than others. Whether that's as it should be, I don't know. But that's how it's done right now. Bearcat (talk) 18:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly looking at the broader context of Canada it will capture a much lower rating. Given its historical Newfoundland and Labrador context and what it did for the fishery and fisherman in this province, it would certainly rate much higher in common knowledge and awareness. --HJKeats (talk) 12:59, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
