Lead edited and expanded.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy with the current state of the intro. PetersV       TALK 01:42, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the late 17th century and early 18th century the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth had been reduced from the status of a major European power to that of a Russian protectorate (or vassal or satellite state, with the Russian tsar effectively choosing Polish-Lithuanian monarchs and deciding the outcome of much of Poland's internal politics; see for example the Repnin Sejm).
Courland (Kurzeme) was a vassal state part of today's Latvia, I'll take a look. PetersV       TALK 17:58, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clarified: it was a Polish fief, linked Duchy of Courland and Semigallia.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • As Austria had annexed 13 towns in the Szepes region in 1769, Catherine and her advisor General Ivan Chernyshyov suggested to Henry that Prussia claim some Polish land, such as Ermland
  • Kaunitz counter-proposed that Prussia take lands from Poland in return for relinquishing Silesia to Austria, but this plan was rejected by Frederick

Questions for reviewer(s)

[edit]

1. Following on to the Courland question, would it improve the article/help avoid/answer the question if there were a version of Rzeczpospolita Rozbiory 1.png which minimally included the names of the regions referenced in the article? Thanks. PetersV       TALK 18:14, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We need more partition maps. Among other things, we don't really have a map of the Third Partition... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:13, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I left a message for Hallibut, it was easy enough to delete the prior two partitions from the map currently in the article, however, he has it copyrighted. Peters V TALK 05:12, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it would improve the article? Please add it. KensplanetTC 06:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Halibutt's copyright is an open license GFDL - so we can modify his maps, as long as we preserve in description info that the new map is based on his work.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 07:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for being patient. The article has been awarded GA status. Thanks, KensplanetTC 10:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
