The section about professional fire fighting clearly needs some work. I plan to work on it myself soon. The fire fighter school in Helsinki should also be mentioned, but I couldn't find any reference for it now so I left it out. Hopefully we can get it soon. Pasi 07:11, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Half-ordinary
[edit]The article uses the term "half-ordinary" for firefighters (or departments thereof) who are between professional and volunteer. "Half-ordinary" isn't an idiomatic English term, and even with the explanation later in the article, it isn't very clear. From that description, it sounds like "semi-professional" or "part time" would be more apt. If "half-ordinary" means that a given fire fighter is trained, has scheduled hours for which they're paid for, but those hours aren't full time (so they have another profession too), and their training is more basic (so they don't get trained on more complex fires or using sophisticated equipment). Is that correct? -- Finlay McWalter··–·Talk 13:59, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Incidentally, this kind of firefighter is called a retained firefighter in the UK. -- Finlay McWalter··–·Talk 15:46, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
