Being bold, deleting "popular culture" cruft
I mean, COME ON. This is getting beyond ridiculous, even for Wikipedia. --66.129.135.114 (talk) 17:50, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Why is it ridiculous? Fire sales aren't extremely common and so their mention in movies and television is interesting. I think it should stay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.189.145.86 (talk) 05:35, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Fire sale is interesting, it`its just like a virtual hacking that you can`t control any electronics divices!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.69.221.7 (talk) 12:16, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Such a pity. There was once a more detailed description of the 3 steps that comprise the cyber attack known as a "Fire Sale." The section was eviscerated and now appears only as a gross oversimplification. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.248.24.164 (talk) 17:09, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
BRING IT BACK!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.17.156.88 (talk) 23:00, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a random collection of bad plot devices from movie sequels. —DragonHawk (talk|hist) 02:28, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Fire sale is mentioned in Naomi Klein's book The Shock Doctrine, where it refers to the selling of government run facilities for a fraction of their worth. If fire sale can be applied in this way, there are many examples, such as Russia in 1993, Chile, Uraguay, Argentina, Iraq, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.241.238.17 (talk) 00:20, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
What about the Arrested Development reference? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.202.74.88 (talk) 13:44, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
I hate to say this, but possible need for deletion?
This is a very poor quality article. In fact, it seems to have sprung up entirely from Live Free or Die Hard and has spun downward from there. If this article cannot be improved, I suggest it be put up for deletion. I cannot find this term in any dictionary, and I have doubt to its merit to being a true word. Discuss. - as word exist in the American language since 1890-95. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/firesale
- or alternatively since 1950 http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fire-sale
- But I agree with you that the article need to be improved. And I wonder what has the Florida Marlins' template to do with this article. --Dia^ (talk) 13:39, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- What does the article have to do with the Florida Marlins? Read the article. - SummerPhD (talk) 15:24, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- Are you in a bad mood and are you try to pick up quarrel following me though wiki? Sorry, I don't have time for it. And I'll not answer other unconstructive posts.--Dia^ (talk) 18:48, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Marlins Template
I decided to remove the Florida Marlins page footer template as I feel it doesn't really belong in this article. While the term "fire sale" may have some relevance to the Marlins (and other teams), the primary use of the term is not in the sports world. The bit about how the term is applied to sports teams looks OK to me, as it describes one of the many applications of this term. Feel free to weigh in on this and/or restore the template if I've inadvertently stepped on someone's toes. Midhart90 (talk) 14:32, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
