Subject Information File relates to Fionán Lynch’s receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the Irish Volunteers prior to and during the week of 23 to 29 April 1916, his subsequent internment until June 1917, his service with the Irish Volunteers and IRA during the War of Independence and his service with the National Army during the Civil War in 1922. Claimant served as an Irish Volunteers organiser in counties Kerry, Armagh and Offaly from 1917 to 1918. Fionán Lynch was arrested and imprisoned from 8 May 1918 to 19 August 1919. In late 1919/early 1920 subject became Assistant Director of Organisation IRA until arrested in January 1921. Claimant was held at Ballykinlar Camp until August 1921 when released to act as a secretary to the Treaty negotiation delegation. In July 1922 subject joined the National Army serving as the Vice General Officer Commanding the South Western Command under General Eoin O'Duffy. He resigned from this position in December 1922 on his appointment as Minister for Fisheries in the Third Dáil. File contains: signed statements supporting subject's pension claim from Eamon Morcan, Mortimer O' Connell, Michael Moran, Michael O' Fogartha, and Diarmuid O' hÉigceartuigh (Diarmuid O' Hegarty); reference to his position as Minister for Education in the Provisional Government from 10 January to 17 July 1922 - he also served as a Minister without Portfolio from 9 September to 6 December 1922; reference to his appointments to the post of Leas Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann on 5 July 1938 and as a Judge of the Circuit Court in November 1944; reference to his receipt of the 1916 Medal and the Service (1917-1921) Medal with Bar; and reference to his wife and one additional address. Fionán Ó Lóinsigh served as a member of the Board of Assessors, Military Service Pensions Act 1924.
