The result of the move request was: Clear consensus that this is needed to distinguish state and country — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:48, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Film industry in Georgia → Film industry in Georgia (U.S. state) – Consistency with main article's title Mvcg66b3r (talk) 04:11, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:56, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Mvcg66b3r and Station1: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:56, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Unnecessary overprecision. Station1 (talk) 06:30, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Necessary precision. Need to distinguish from Georgia (country) in the Caucasus. The Caucasus and around has been in the news in recent years. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:53, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Support obviously only Station1 would oppose this. Please re-read WP:CRITERIA please. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:56, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Support - as while a current article for the film industry in the country does not exist, the redirect could be created to lead to Media of Georgia#Cinema (which itself should probably also be disambiguated with "(country)"). --Gonnym (talk) 12:03, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- To readers in the USA, "Georgia" would likely mean the USA state first. To readers in Europe, or the Middle East (and therefore nearish to the Caucasus), not necessarily so. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:50, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- It's strange that this is even contested. The state vs country disambiguation has already been settled in pages and categories. Not sure why some editors insist on fighting each and every sub-page. --Gonnym (talk) 16:52, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- There are hundreds of articles on WP that have "Georgia" or "Georgian" in their titles without confusing anyone, ranging from University of Georgia (a primary topic) to Georgians to Georgia Aquarium to Lists of Georgian films (and its many subtopics) to Gori, Georgia to Georgian architecture. If this article requires a qualifier, why doesn't Cinema of Georgia? The answer is because they both have hatnotes for the rare reader who lands there by mistake, and it's not necessary to solve a non-existent problem. Station1 (talk) 20:21, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Weak support per WP:TITLECON since both Georgias have film industries, convert base name to a DAB. Possibly also move Cinema of Georgia. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:40, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Oppose recent move
[edit]For the record, I wish to note my Oppose to the recent move just above and request to be notified if a new RM is filed accordingly. While I recognize the ambiguity between the country and state named Georgia, of course, there is no ambiguity with Film industry in Georgia, which at least continues to correctly redirect as WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to the now unnecessarily disambiguated Film industry in Georgia (U.S. state). In general, whenever a more concise title is a primary redirect to a less concise title, that's a good indicator we have unnecessary disambiguation. It's definitely unnecessary disambiguation in this case because the film industry in the country Georgia does not warrant its own article. If it did, that would be a different matter. In the same way, we have The Paris News, not The Paris (Texas) News. Now, if media in France also creates a The Paris News, then we would reconsider the title we use for the one in Paris, Texas. But for now, we leave it as is. The same reasoning applies to the title of this article. Furthermore, the new title is confusing: Film industry in Georgia is not a "U.S. state". It really should be moved back as soon as possible because it sets a confusing precedent. I won't open an RM right away, but am pinging the participants to see if there is consensus to reconsider. Folks, what do you think? @MSGJ:, @Mvcg66b3r:, @Anthony Appleyard:, @Station1:, @Gonnym:, @Crouch, Swale:. --В²C ☎ 19:24, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- The Paris News is not the same since its a proper noun not a descriptive title, as noted the country has film industry to and there's no reason why an article couldn't be created on it, see WP:SHORTFORM and the example of Government of Georgia v Georgia in the American Revolution. Film industry in Georgia should be converted into a DAB which would make the unnecessarily disambiguation moot anyway. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:29, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- "there's no reason why an article couldn't be created on it". Please review WP:CRYSTAL. And if and when it is created, then we will have a disambiguation issue to resolve. But currently we don't, except thanks to the previous RM we now have an unnecessary disambiguation issue. --В²C ☎ 20:13, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- There is no requirement that an article currently exists (see Wikipedia:PRIMARYRED) as long as one currently could exist but in any case Cinema of Georgia (country) does exist. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:59, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- Never mind my disagreement with the reasoning at PRIMARYRED, it's irrelevant here, as it applies to red vs blue links on a dab page. There is no dab page involved in this discussion. --В²C ☎ 22:11, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

- I understand where you're coming from, but I do not agree. I stick with my earlier position. Gonnym (talk) 19:57, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- It's your right to be wrong. ;-) --В²C ☎ 20:13, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- (responding to ping) Although I certainly agree with В²C that it was an unnecessary move that makes the title inconsistent with most titles that have "Georgia" or "Georgian" in them; or that start with "Film industry in..." (most of which refer to states or subnational areas); or that start with "Cinema of..." (most of which refer to nations); I don't think it's worth the trouble to reopen as long as the more concise titles continue to redirect to the longer titles.
