Notability
[edit]A dispute has been raised about Geljo's notability (WP:GNG).
I definitely think Geljo is notable enough. He is covered in many reliable sources including The Direct, Screen Rant, Mashable, Variety, Looper, and others. There is in-depth coverage on Looper, which talks about Geljo as an actor, and Variety, which talks about him and the other main actor from Odd Squad (Dalila Bela) leaving the show. There are also a couple paragraphs about him in 24/7 Wall St. He is also mentioned elsewhere, but those sites (such as some of the ones listed above) restate general information about Geljo that can be found on other sources and are not cited because of this. According to WP:SIGCOV, "Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material" (emphasis added). This definitely falls under "significant coverage."
Plus, under WP:NACTOR, an actor may be considered notable if "The person has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions." Geljo starred in Odd Squad and had a significant role in Avatar: The Way of Water, among other minor roles. Schtamangie (talk) 17:11, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- The problem is that the totality of biographical coverage is essentially two paragraphs in The Looper [1], a source whose reliability looks less than stellar. That's really scraping against the line of significant coverage, and there isn't anything to cobble together from the other sources except reiterations of the same information: that he plays Aonung in Avatar: Way of Water and Agent Otto on Odd Squad. If the other sources had distinct, significant information, it would make sense to consider it as contributing toward establishing notability. Similarly, two supporting roles in notable works is really stretching WP:NACTOR; neither are leads, neither are genre-defining works/roles, and it's only 2. signed, Rosguill talk 17:23, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- I understand that the coverage is not extremely extensive. But he is still talked about in many different articles from many different sources. Once again, from WP:SIGCOV: "Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material" (emphasis added). Many of the sources (not all, I'll admit) definitely cover him in more than a "trivial mention."
- I think it'd be valuable to just read WP:GNG for anyone who is interested.
- Secondly, about "neither are leads": Agent Otto is a co-lead. In Odd Squad, there is a duo of "agents" who solve "odd" problems, and Geljo plays one of those two. He appears on all Odd Squad promo posters (for Season 1), and he would be considered a lead. Also, there is nothing in WP:NACTOR that says the actor has to play a "genre-defining" role or be in a genre-defining work. (But I'm sure the Avatar movies would count as genre-defining if there was.)
- I understand that some of this (about WP:NACTOR) is open to interpretation, but let's look at precedent. Britain Dalton and Trinity Bliss are actors whose main credit is a non-leading role in Avatar: The Way of Water. Neither of their pages have notability disputes. Sean Michael Kyer and Dalila Bela are two Odd Squad actors of arguably the same notability. Neither of them have notability disputes on their pages. Schtamangie (talk) 17:44, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- As no further counterarguments against notability have been raised in the past week, I'm going to remove the maintenance tag, per WP:WTRMT. Schtamangie (talk) 16:14, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
