Notability

[edit]

I guess I'm having a hard time figuring out what information would make this "important" or not. This is the very first organization that ministers/chaplains to MMA fighters. It's controversial and groundbreaking. Not to mention, this was nominated for deletion not 10 minutes after I posted it. Two things: Give me more time to make more changes, and please help me figure out what would be a good addition to make this meet requirements. Thanks. See this page to see what qualifies an organization as notable. It is unlikely you can make enough changes to make the subject notable, unless it has a greater reach than it appears. I'm also not sure that this is the only organization that ministers to MMA fans in this manner. I've seen at least two others. You would need independent, verifiable sources for us to verify what you say. At this point, the only references provided are those to sites controlled by the subject. Those are not independent, reliable sources. I still believe this article should be deleted. (Of course, speedy-deleted articles can be re-created, within limits.) - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:55, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have declined the speedy deletion request. IMO the claims already made in the article indicate its possible significance, particularly the claim of controversy. That said, the claims have not yet been substantiated. For that, as Realkyhick wrote above, citations to reliable sources would be needed. In particular if there has been controversy, published news stories on that controversy would be very helpful. See WP:CITE for more on how tio cite sources. If this were brought to articels for deletion in its current state, and was not improved during the discussion, it might well be deleted. DES (talk) 00:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Bingo! The New York Times and Las Vegas Review-Journal are excellent examples of independent coverage — as good as any subject is likely to get. There's still a little work to do, but this article is not only out of danger of speedy-deletion, it's out of danger of deletion of any other kind. Good work! Let me know if you need any help. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 03:28, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for helping me out. You can probably tell (from the page and from my info) that this is my first page. Thanks to realkyhick, profcoughlin, DESiegel for getting it on track. I guess the lesson to learn from here on in is to really, truly get all ducks in their appropriate rows before posting anything new. I figured about the relevance/external evidence, just didn't know the scrutiny would come so quick. Thanks again. Oaktubs (talk) 03:51, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
