Irrelevant, subjective, editorial narrative removal
[edit]Going to remove this entire section if there is no discussion input in the next couple of weeks.
Reason being, it's superfluous and not relevant to the place for which the page is actually about.
There are other problems too, one of which I will fix shortly with a small edit.
I've read the citation and it is without mention of Fort Humboldt being a "failure".
Further, the page itself for Fort Humboldt says no such thing and in fact cites many achievements, some related to quelling rebellion and establishing order by responding to attacks by natives and settlers alike.
The quoted part of the page I will remove seems to be little more than an editorial narrative, subjectivity is high as well.
Here is the section up for removal:
"retaliatory attacks and keep peace between the settlers and the natives was a failure, as the garrison did neither successfully. Indians were enslaved under the terms of the 1850 "Act for the Government and Protection of Indians" that provided legal basis for the continued Californio practice of capturing and using Native people as forced workers, particularly that of young women and children, which was carried on as a legal business enterprise. Intrusion of professional hunters and settlers and their herds of cattle and pigs into the hunting and gathering areas of the natives in the interior led the reduction of their food supplies and native resistance to this began the Bald Hills War. Development around the bay, disease, and the February 26, 1860 Indian Island Massacre, and consequences of the Bald Hills War, led to decimation of the peaceful Wiyot reducing their numbers from 3,000 to less than 100 survivors by 1865."
This isn't even a backstory leading to the establishment of Fields Landing, which occurred in 1862 following the settlement of its founder's namesake the previous year, and it's founding was based on shipping industry related commerce, distinct and independent of matters in the snippet above focusing on issues relating more with conflict more inland and northward.
Issues
[edit]Deleted the reference to Karen Sperry. Having a job that is one exit away on the freeway does not make you a notable resident. The entire section has been deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.111.43.97 (talk) 06:59, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- Reverted edit. The head of a major department of a college is not just "a job". Downstrike (talk) 08:55, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
- Really the head of a department of a college is just a job. To be included on notables list, person needs own Wikipedia page first, please see WikiCities Guidelines. Please do not remove 2000 and 2010 census data and also please do not vandalize the location and info box templates. Thank you. Ellin Beltz (talk) 04:45, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
