General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: The hook could be punchier, but I am drawing a blank on how to make it better. --evrik (talk) 21:49, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This broader topic redirects here, for now. Eventually it should be created as a stand-alone article. Note that we also have the rather poor List of fictional musical instruments that may fail WP:LISTN/MOS:TRIVIA. There is no list of fictional music/list of fictional songs. Blues Brothers

[edit]

You know, The Blues Brothers were fictitious people playing real music. --evrik (talk) 21:58, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where does this fall into?

[edit]

That Thing You Do!, a movie about a fictitious band and their music. --evrik (talk) 22:00, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"See also" for now? There are many similar entries in Category:Fictional musicians. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:09, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional musical instruments

[edit]

That section has been added here as a result of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional musical instruments. That discussion however ended up with a close or redirect, not merge (said merge was done by User:Siroxo). While I appreciate the thought, the section is problematic given MOS:TRIVIA/WP:IPC/WP:NOTTVTROPES/WP:SYNTH. Ping also User:TompaDompa. Should we remove it? When I was writing this article, not a single source I found tackled this subtopic, and I still don't see it. In other words, while common sense tells us this is related, discussing it here would sadly violate our policies and the current list format is not really encyclopedic, but more like a list of trivia. We could also (but should not) list examples of fictional musicians, or zillion other pieces of fictional music that exists out there... If sources on the overarching topic don't focus on this aspect, neither should this article. That's a fairly straightforward application of WP:PROPORTION. TompaDompa (talk) 17:50, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with removing it. It might be a good idea to give it a few days to develop since it's mostly in its original list form, just slightly condensed. Most of the trivia could easily be removed while still providing some examples (perhaps in prose form if that is better for this article). I didn't move it entirely blindly, either, after the AfD closure when considering the merge, I noticed that one source in this article has a bit to say about examples of fictional instruments "Future musical instruments mostly fall into two classes.... It only has a partial overlap with the current examples. —siroχo 20:46, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken one pass at fixing some of the trivia/etc issues, by focusing it on attributed sourced claims and removing examples that don't fit those claims (perhaps to be added back if we find more secondary sources making such claims). —siroχo 00:26, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, it looks a bit better now, I think we can keep it as it is. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:54, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS. @Siroxo That section should probably be moved to music in fiction, once that article is created... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:23, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
