postal codes in 56?

"In 1956 the company received a contract from the Canadian Post Office to develop an electronic mail sorting system, which they delivered later that year. The system used a hard-wired transistorized computer that stored a table of postal codes on a magnetic drum. "

City-codes were being used as early as the 1940s. These supplanted the "station letters" that were also in widespread use (and are still used in a few cases today). My house was "5 Toronto" for instance. Maury 21:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
