Irish connection?

The lede throws in reference to "Scottish-Irish" (easter-egging the link, though), and there's an "Ulster-Scottish" category. No reference or rationale for either. I don't really follow the logic of either: are these a reference to Planters, to the Dál Riata connection of the notional origin of the name, or just because it's ultimately Gaelic?
