Overall, the article is on its way to being developed/well-developed. The draft has the lead, body, and reference sections outlined, although it does not quite yet have specific headers in place (As of the time I am peer-reviewing 12/08/2021 12:29 PM). However, for a stub article that did not exist beforehand, already the draft is written very concisely and in a way that is easy for audiences to understand. The summary provides a definition of femicide in Latin America, its importance in politics, the countries that recognize the problem and are taking action, and the issue’s portrayal in the media. This topic also addresses one of Wikipedia’s inequity gaps as it features the oppression of a minority group. The picture shown in the article has a very well-captioned and detailed description. The references are diverse and come from a multitude of databases, research papers, and newspaper articles; many are also written by a diverse spectrum of authors, many who are Spanish-speaking themselves and provide the most accurate information as opposed to reading translated news. To improve, the author could just add more information to the body and outline a more specific framework for the sections that will be explicated in detail. Plan to Edit

[edit]

The article does a good job of addressing the different aspects that are important in the discussion of femicide in Latin America. I plan to elaborate on femicide in different countries past Mexico in some subtopic sections, as well as add information regarding the different aspects that lead into femicide. More detailed plan to edit

[edit]

In elaboration on the edits I plan to make, I plan to add more information on the section titled "Femicide rates by nationality" in regards to how migration is an important factor to be considered when discussing femicide. I am also considering renaming the section to "Femicide and Migration." I also intend to elaborate on the section titled "Weak justice institutions and impunity." I would like to add two subsections to this topic, splitting it into legislature and effectiveness, and discussing each in more depth. I also would like to add a section titled "Impacts of Femicide" that details the implications of femicide in a larger context. I would also like to add some countries to the article and discuss how femicide may differ between them, including the North Triangle of Central America (El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras). I will also add a subsection on social movements. Stud3nt1947 (talk) 04:39, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review

[edit]

Hi User Stud3nt1947 ! Overall, the article is very well written. I can tell that this is a topic that you are passionate about, based on the amount of effort I can tell you put in. I especially appreciated your contribution of including connections to Catholicism and the different definitions of femicide in legislation. I was also very interested in reading the impacts and social movements section. My biggest critique is to expand the number of sources you have for your information. My comments about adding more information to certain sections are mostly small adjustments that you can feel free to take or not take. Great job! Dml108 (talk) 04:23, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review Summary

[edit]

This article is very well done and touches on important aspects of Femicide in Latin America, as well as expanding on a critical issue. I think that the article would benefit from a few specific enhancements. Such as a bit more depth and nuance in the, the "media awareness and victim blaming" section, as well as the incorporation of more dates to give readers a clearer historical context and understanding of the topics evolution. As well as a minor addition of an image. This was constructed very well though and makes strong points as well as uses strong evidence and sources.
