Establishment of Fellowship
[edit]I am a little concerned that this article may contain a fair amount of incorrect information. It is certainly poorly sourced.
I have just removed "Col. James Todd" (sic - actually, should be Lieut.-Col. James Tod). Tod died in 1835 and per the Society journal for that year, which is available here, the rules contained no provisions for Fellows at all. There were various classes of Member (Resident, Foreign, etc) but no Fellows at all.
Does anyone know when the Fellowship was introduced? - Sitush (talk) 13:33, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
The sourcing of this section could certainly be improved perhaps, it would be better, dear Sitush, to clarify the point that you so aptly make, above, and to then re-organise this list (which is essentially a sub-list/attachment to the main RAS list)pointing out (a) early members/membership and (b) actual/later fellowship? That would help a lot, thanks. The main purpose of the Wiki 'tags' is to ultimately improve each article/page. ==Khani100
I shall also check the society's website and try to see if I can find out when the Fellowships began. And also try to add/amend this article as much as I can. Best regs, ====Khani100
Recent change
[edit]A recent alteration to this article was evidently aimed at making the Fellowship of this society seem far more prestigious than it actually is; it is not only "awarded" to people who make worthy contributions to the field (although it can of course be bestowed in this manner in recognition of such), but in fact, "Fellows" of this society are akin to "Members" of other societies, where Fellowship is a more prestigious level of association. I became a Fellow simply by submitting an application explaining my own interests in matters related to Asia, without having to justify myself unduly or prove any achievements whatsoever. If any doubt should remain, the Society itself clarifies this matter amply on its website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.66.254 (talk) 23:36, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
