[edit]I can't find a home page for this Federation.
I added a link to http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050512/aplus.htm which says there are nearly 50 groups - it's just a reference in a newspaper site, but hopefully someone can add a better link. --Singkong2005 talk 06:22, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Number of affiliated organizations of FIRA
[edit]Here is the report filed by The Tribune, Kolkata which the above user referred to. In spite of this reference somebody has been trying frequently to insert the wrong information in the article. The umber of affiliated organizations are in fact more than 50 as referred in The Tribune article dated 12 May 2005.
FIRA’s proposal
The Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA), an association of nearly 50 rationalist, secularist, humanist, atheist and scientific organisations from different Indian states, in a draft bill, has demanded the separation of religion from politics, educational system and judiciary to make India a secular nation in true sense.
The activists of FIRA organised demonstration in front of the Parliament House, New Delhi, and presented the draft bill to President, Vice-President and Prime Minister, according to the Tarksheel Society, Punjab.
Prof Narendra Nayak, national president of the association, in the draft bill, also sought the cancellation of recognition of political parties asking votes in the name of religion and caste. He said that the involvement of government institutions in the religious functions should also be banned. Skollur 07:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Dravida Kazhagam, an affiliate of FIRA
[edit]Dravida Kazhagam is an affiliate of FIRA. In fact, it is a representative of DK, Mr. Kumaresan, the current treasurer of FIRA. Hence the deletion of DK from the list of affiliated organizations of FIRA is not correct.Skollur 07:00, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Dravida Kazhagam is not directly affiliated to FIRA. But Rationalists' Forum, which is a body working under DK, is affiliated to FIRA. Mr. Kumaresan is the Tamil Nadu State Secretary of Rationalists' Forum. Moreover, since Rationalists' Forum is listed as a FIRA affiliate, the presence of DK in the list is redundant or even wrong.MANOJTV (talk) 00:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
