Special Category for British Motorcycles

As part of the Motorcycling WikProject I am working though all the missing articles and stubs for British Bikes. To make things easier to sort out there is a special Category:British motorcycles Please add to any British motorcycle pages you find or create. It will also help to keep things organised if you use the Template:Infobox Motorcycle or add it where it is missing. I've linked the Category to the Commons Motorcycles of Britain so you could help with matching pics to articles or adding the missing images to the Commons. The people behind the bikes also bring it all to life - I've created the Category:British motorcycle pioneers so please have a look and see if you can add or expand any? Well spotted! The wikilink was to Peter Norton, software developer (who may or may not have any interest in motorcycles) - but I just ran a search for 'Peter Norton featherbed' and found that this error has been replicated all over the internet. Shows why it is so important for us to get our facts right. I have sorted it now thanks Thruxton (talk) 19:21, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BMW Frames

It is quite obvious that BMW was inspired by the featherbed frame in designing the slash 5 series (R50/5 to R75/5) of 1969 (ironically, just when Norton was dropping it in favour of Dr. Stefan Bauer's isolastic frame).

And the BMW RS of 1954 is an earlier example of what looks very much like a BMW version of teh featherbed frame:

BRD Bold, Revert, Discuss

Summary for the BRD process, the article does not have an inline citation from a reliable secondary source, independent of the article subject required by Wikipedia for independent nobility WP:N as all of the references are all from motor-cycle publications and many with broken or dead links. A reference from the report for the 1951 or 1952 Isle of Man TT Races in the newspaper the Isle of Man Examiner may be considered by editors to satisfy independent notability as it relates to the summary in paragraph 1 of the article, presumed to be the lede sentence or executive summary for the article. WP:LEDE

The patent description is a primary source WP:PRIMARY with a dead or broken link, may give a correct description of the frame. However, the same McCandless patent description does not contain the term “featherbed frame” and the patent is a generic description of a motor-cycle frame and therefore not cannot be considered as a reliable secondary source that is independent of the article subject required by Wikipedia for independent nobility WP:N.

The source for the 1933 Brough Superior model contains a third –party account of the motor-cycle as a “….Feather bed….” rather than a works or factory designation of “featherbed frame ” in the description of the “rear sprung frame.” Although a type of “rear sprung frame” may be considered a defining feature of the featherbed frame and most modern motor-cycles have variations or evolutions of the featherbed frame which is not reflected by the article. The McCandless patent of 1949 contains no description of the similar “rear sprung frame” as shown in the Brough Superior advertisement.

Editors should note that the photo of the 1960 Café racer replica (?) in the article has differences to the original patent prototype frames and also to the factory Norton “featherbed” racing motor-cycles of the period 1949-1952/54. agljones(talk)20:06, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You need to LEARN what "independent" means, despite using two identities from 2006 and 2008 you still cannot grasp the fundamentals.

"...the references are all from motor-cycle publications" - what do you expect - industry-experts, or Isle of Man-only parochial newspapers? Please do not again top-template this as WP:NOTE, or get over to a noticeboard where you will be flamed for continued BAD FAITH Wikilawyering.

It's not a cafe racer, it's a bespoke, hand-built, semi-Manx Norton replica called a Manxman using an International engine, by a Welshman called Neville something - I have a period mag I can cite if it'll make you happy - see Talk:Doug Hele#Manx Norton image.

You shouldn't present yourself as a hypocrite by applying your own questionable quasi-knowledge alleging that you can discern detail differences in an image - it's an example of the WP:NOR that you are always shouting about - 'hoist by own petard'.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 21:05, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The editor USER:Rocknrollmancer has previously received a formal warning by an uninvolved editor User:Drmies of using “laundry lists” and also warned about unnecessary Single purpose Account (SPA) claims and tagging articles with unnecessary Conflict of Interests (COI) claims due only to editor disagreement. A single issue ’laundry list’ or double issue ‘laundry list is still a “Laundry List” and repeating the claims may be seen as 'supermarket shopping' by other editors. agljones(talk)11:39, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
