Talk:Favipiravir/Archive 1
interesting article
[edit]I find this a very interesting Arrrrticle. I especially like the quote from Professor Shiraki, "earlier administration of favipiravir is crucial to protect the life of an Ebola infected patient; it determines the survival rate."
Also, freedom is good.
Subsection for Influenza?
[edit]Should we add a subsection specifically for influenza in addition to the paragraph on Ebola? I feel like favipiravir's activity against oseltamivir-resistant influenza could also be a relevant addition to this page, as well as a larger discussion of the drug's mechanism. Acetaminophen Interactions
[edit]I've seen interesting research as to how favipiravir inhibits the formation of sulfate metabolites from paracetamol. Would this information be too specific for this page? I could see it potentially being useful, but I'm uncertain. Regardless, I'm not even sure where I would that information in the current article. Maddieball16 (talk) 09:36, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
Rabies
[edit]about this diff, PMID 25156675 says of this drug: "The antiviral effects of this drug have been studied in vivo and in vitro in several RNA viral infections caused by West Nile virus [60], influenza virus [61], arenaviruses [62] and hantaviruses [63]. Favipiravir has shown efficacy in a mouse model of western equine encephalitis [64] and also appears to avoid the toxicity of ribavirin. The promising results, especially those obtained in clinical phases of the diseases, should encourage researchers to evaluate this therapy in rabies.". In other words, not tested at all in rabies, not even in vitro. The opposite of the added content. Jytdog (talk) 12:25, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- Apologies, you are right, was reading through that reference quickly late at night and thought they said it was being evaluated against rabies, not that the authors were encouraging other researchers to evaluate it...will keep an eye out for if favipiravir does get tested for this application and whether it works! - great thanks. Jytdog (talk) 19:20, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
