Question as to video
[edit]Are we allowed to reference the official video for the song on YouTube? A.e. put a link to the video (on YouTube) in the reference or external links section?
Thanks Daniel Musto (talk) 00:54, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- As a reference? No, it fails Wikipedia:Reliable sources. As an external link? You might be able to get away with it, but it isn't really considered a great link when there are alternatives. Is that the only place the video is found? A more proper link would be to a video section on the band's official website (providing they have either a video section or an official website). - Ok, thanks for the clarification. As of now, I don't think the video has been officially released, and if it has, it's not on their web site unfortunately. Daniel Musto (talk) 04:47, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Because YouTube is entirely user submitted material, it isn't considered reliable published information. Even if it is just a music video. However, MTV.com is considered to be a trusted source. Specifically referring to music videos, it is commonly used as a source in band discography pages for video directors. Also, I just dug up more information on the topic: see Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs#Lyrics and music videos for more info. Fezmar9 (talk) 05:09, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, to further indent, and contribute to this discussion, thank you for looking up the actual Wikipedia policy. Hopefully, Senses Fail will post the video officially so we can link it. Else, we will have no link to the video. After all, policy stands for a reason. Thank you, Fezmar9! Daniel Musto (talk) 07:54, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
