[edit]I note the image File:Fairy Toot.JPG has been removed following a comment by an IP editor in 2011, suggesting "this photo is technically not fairy toot, it is very close, about 300m in a neighbouring field." I took the photo where the Fairy Toot is marked on the OS map and there were clearly several areas of stones which would fit with an oval barrow which had been opened. Does anyone have another picture or further advice?— Rod talk 10:15, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- The official 'National Monuments Record' (NMR) locates Fairy Toot in a thicket (article: "covered with ash trees and shrubs"), while the coordinates used in the article point to a meadow about 40 m northwest of the thicket. The NMR describes Fairy tooth as "150 feet N-S and 75 feet E-W" which matches quite well the size of the thicket.
- IMO, the entry in the OS map is not that clear. In the modern OS map the entry has been moved to west compared to older maps. --jergen (talk) 10:55, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- PS: Other pictures of Fairy Toot [1] [2] [3] show a different situation than File:Fairy Toot.JPG, with far more trees. --jergen (talk) 10:59, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. I will try to get back there with a camera sometime.— Rod talk 12:06, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
