Unfinished Business

[edit]

What exactly should we do about this information? I feel it should be included, though attributed directly to Bell as I had it, because it is information directly important to his life and explains the whole Truth and Reconciliation Commission comments (which are in themselves factual, there is no question on the Commission). The only question is the factualness of Bell's book and articles on Barraclough, which is why I attributed the info to Bell. You can't attest Barraclough as working for the South African government and not explain the reasoning for it. I'm fine with leaving out the Spain info, if you'd like, but the trust info isn't actually negative in terms of his actions. It just means he was used by Williamson without realizing it. A brief mention of the issue is probably in order, but should not overshadow the biography as a whole. Given the present size of the bio, I'd make it a sentence. --JN466 21:13, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be fine with making it shorter, but the current information doesn't say anything. It says he was signed onto two trusts...so what? The sentence needs to be completed with the info that the trusts were being used to funnel money to the apartheid government. SilverserenC 21:52, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Three of the six sources currently in use focus on this issue. According to the sources we have, it's a significant aspect of his notability. Nomoskedasticity (talk) 21:59, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The following wording

After the fall of the apartheid government, Barraclough "retained his position under Nelson Mandela's government (elected in April 1994), was awarded a good service medal in 1998, [and] never appeared before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) hearings."[1]

seems unwarranted. It's cited to [1]; as I read the source, these comments applied to one Horace Doncaster, not to the BLP subject. --JN466 21:13, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right; I've removed it. Nomoskedasticity (talk) 21:50, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
