[edit]What in the world is a "6th football XI"? It sounds more like a Roman legion. ;) —Ed (talk • majestic titan) 07:03, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
- It is their 6th-best team. A club usually has a first and a reserve team (FC St. Pauli II) in Germany, sometimes also a second reserve team (FC St. Pauli III). In St. Pauli's case the club obviously has had five reserve teams (FC St. Pauli II to VI). XI stands for eleven, the number of players a football side fields in a game, compare to a XV in rugby union. Its comon to write it that way with sports teams, like in Cricket, Rugby or Football.
