people.bayt.com

[edit]

Vinegarymass911 and Hrksmp, you respectively created and expanded this article, relying heavily on material from people.bayt.com. That's a self-published career networking site, much like LinkedIn. As such, it is generally unreliable, and should be used only for uncontroversial self-description. A statement like "He says he graduated from Jhenaidah Cadet College in 1986", might be considered uncontroversial. A statement about what his position was in the merit list is unduly self-serving and not encyclopedic. That's one of the problems with non-independent sources, they place undue weight on information that no one else cares about.

An even bigger problem with people.bayt.com is that a self-published source may only be cited in regards to a living person if the account can be authenticated as belonging to the subject. Facebook, Twitter, and some other social media sites have a verified account mechanism (blue checkmark or badge) to show that the account really is who it says it is, but I see nothing similar on people.bayt.com. Do either of you know any way of telling whether the material about F M Zahid Hossain was posted by the real life Hossain, or could it just as easily have been posted by anyone posing as him?

All of the other sources lack significant coverage. They are of the "so-and-so, F M Zahid Hossain, and so-and-so were present at the event" variety. Once upon a time, all generals were presumed notable, but now that the WP:SOLDIER essay has been deprecated, generals must demonstrate significant coverage in independent, reliable sources, just like other people. I don't see evidence of such coverage for Hossain. Do either of you see a reason this article should not be deleted? --Worldbruce (talk) 22:04, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I created this before I knew the WP:SOLDIER essay has been deprecated. If you think sources do not exist please feel free to take to AFD. I have stopped creating articles on generals after I learned about the policy change.Vinegarymass911 (talk) 03:27, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
