Date
[edit]It is odd that Duarte's date of birth is not known. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.176.33 (talk) 15:36, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
- We're limited by the information that we have in the available, reliable, secondary sources. If you have any that give the exact date, please feel free to add. I've read a lot of his works and ran across some of the other stuff about him. Much of it was invaluable when constructing my dye laser, yet I've never seen his birthdate listed anywhere. I'm not even sure which source the "1954" came from. (I think it's safe to assume, however, that he's a different F.J. Duarte than the one who is famous for calculating pi to 200 digits in 1902.) That's often a problem when creating articles about scientists; there is more about their works and less about themselves. I tried creating one about Walter H. Geffcken (a pioneer in thin-film optics) but had the same problem. Zaereth (talk) 17:59, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Self-published sources and primary research papers are not RS for the claims made about Duarte in Wikipedia's voice
[edit]For example, from the lead:
He introduced the generalized multiple-prism dispersion theory,[1][2][3] has discovered various multiple-prism grating oscillator laser configurations,[4][5][6] and pioneered polymer-nanoparticle gain media.[7]
His awards make him notable. His citation count is not impressive. This article needs a rewrite. I made a start. HouseOfChange (talk) 17:55, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
