"Both Wood and her "Thirteen" co-star Nikki Reed are Jewish." The above might be true, but this isn't an obscure religion by any means. I've glanced over many other biographical articles about people of christian or muslim faiths and it says nothing about them being catholic, christian, protestant, lutheran, methodist, etc... so why do we need to say these actresses are Jewish without having a notable reason for stating it? Here's an example: "Both Wood and her "Thirteen" co-star are Jewish and as a result, blah blah blah. How about we make these articles sound less like a bunch of random trivia? — oo64eva (Alex) (U | T | C) @ 08:25, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

I completely agree to that. I reverted it last time, but I left it there to see if anyone else found it unneccesary. Courtkittie 10:08, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, pointing out that she's Jewish is like pointing out that Linsday Lohan is Irish and Italian. But it can be done in a subtler way, I guess. Anyway - I've read elsewhere that Roger Moore is her uncle - does anyone know if that's true or not? He would have to be her mother's brother. But he was born in 1927 England, while Wood's mother was born in 1958 in LA., therefore making it near impossible that they're siblings. According to the IMDB, none of Roger Moore's wives were named Moore or Wood, so it's unlikely that he's married to one of her parents' siblings. Seems like a relation is impossible, but anyone know for sure? -24.141.149.226

Evan Rachel Wood's mother's name was Moore, it is possible her uncle is Roger Moore (i.e. her Dad is his brother) so that would make him Wood's great uncle Arniep 12:40, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

I guess that's possible, but of course, it means he isn't Wood's uncle, which was my point. Anyway, I think it is just some web rumour someone invented somewhere - probably because her mother's last name was "Moore" as well. I have never seen an interview or anything where that's mentioned. And of course, there's the fact that Wood is Jewish and Roger Moore is not - altough I don't know if both of Wood's parents are Jewish, or just one of them, or what.

But in any case, I would be willing to bet a large sum of money that they are not related at all. Vulturell 19:08, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Birth Name

On IMDb, it says that Evan's birth name is actually Evan Rachael Wood. Is this true? Stephe1987 07:59, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm not so sure. IMDB is often wrong. I couldn't find anything like an interview or a reliable source. "Rachael" is a really rare name. JackO'Lantern 08:03, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

A decent Picture of Evan!!!

This article needs a decent picture of Evan, the one with her and Nikki Reed isn't good enough...I mean acctreses like Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff have about 5 pictures of them, while Evan, who is just as talented, in fact much more talented than they'll ever be!!! I don't know how to add a picture...so could someone please tell me how to??

How about the one I just added? What you have to do is find a screenshot or a free picture (i.e. a picture that isn't copyrighted), save it to your own computer, and then go to "Upload file", press "Browse", and load it on to here. Mad Jack O'Lantern 08:07, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

diploma

"Wood received her diploma at age fifteen". What diploma, and from whom did she receive it?-- ExpImptalkcon 13:40, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Almost certainly her High school diploma, but i don't have a source. Amo 15:13, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Wood and Bell

The source given for that piece of info is not a fanpage, it's an article in a respected British newspaper. Until you have a competing written source (from Wood's brother) or elsewhere, that thier relationship is over, then it should stay. This is not about whether they are together or not. this is about the fact that wikipedia deals in sourced information. Amo 09:34, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

First of all, you need to read the section entitled "Self-published and dubious sources in articles about the author(s)" in the page on verifiability requirements. My claim is backed up (despite not being backed by a written source) and is not self serving or overly contentious. Moreover, an article in the Guardian is hardly a source of biographical information on Wood and we have no way of verifying the Guardian's claims, so the article is just as questionable as claims made by anyone else. I know for a fact that Wood dated Bell, but I also know that the realtionship is over. Lastly, you say "This is not about whether they are together or not. this is about the fact that wikipedia deals in sourced information.", I beg to differ. Wikipedia is an Encyclopedia, encyclopedias deal in fact, there are many potential "sources", such as hate websites, that would make ridiculous claims about minorities; simply because the material has a documented source does not make it factual or suitable for an encyclopedic entry.

July 2003 Magazine

I'm pretty sure the magazine she and nine other under 18 actresses were featured in was Vanity Fair, not Vogue, so I'm changing that. Almost lustro 01:09, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Sexual Identity

She's tagged as Bisexual Actresses (and several other LGBT tags). The article isn't linked to their project page, and the tags are unsourced, with no mention of her sexuality in the article. I've seen mention of this on the gossip columns, but is there a reliable source for it? 131.96.13.213 (talk) 21:20, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Removed per WP:BLPCAT. She may be bisexual; I have no idea. But it should be unequivocally sourced in a BLP. Thanks for catching that. Cresix (talk) 02:06, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Since you said the source previously used was too vague, here is a quote that cannot be misinterpreted: "I myself am bisexual". Nymf hideliho! 10:27, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes. According to IMDB, Wood appeared in seven episodes from 1998-1999, in which she played Chloe Waters, daughter of Dr. Samantha Waters (Ally Walker). - Mr. Dude Man 11:38, 28 May 2007

thanks!

I took out the Shane West dating thing. One, this is a story that is based on rumor. Two, she has a history of confirming things and then moving on-and that's what happened. She's moved on from him atthis point. I've noticed the second she confirms something, she moves on to the next thing. She has a history of doing this. Three, there is WAY too much evidence to the contrary. The two are just friends, and nothing more. Four, everyone else has moved on from this story, too. Early Life needs editing

The section reads as promotional advertising for her FATHER and his theater company. How important is it what her mother does? Does it merit several sentences? What *possible* relevance is her aunt's occupation? Is her aunt "notable"? I doubt it. Way too much space allocated to unimportant details (how important is her first "appearance" if she was an infant?) In the subsequent section, it notes that her parents were divorced when she was ~9, so the claim that she was "actively involved in Theatre in the Park while growing up" seems a bit overstated. It also states she was home schooled - was this in NC or CA since the implication is that she moved with her mother to L.A. around age 9-10. My read of the section is it fails to clearly integrate her early years in NC and L.A. One other thing, she is not ETHNICALLY Jewish (according to the article, since her mother converted) and while it might be true that at age ~16 she, still living with her mother, described herself as "Jewish", her 2012 declaration that she was NOT should OBVIOUSLY take precedence (until she changes her mind). How seriously do we take the statement of a teenager compared to her as an adult? The article seems intentionally distorted to me. Anyone know how she came to have a (typically) male first name?Abitslow (talk) 11:29, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

In 2012, she didn't explicitly say she isn't Jewish. Anyway, both statements are in the article, with the information as to when they were made, so that covers it well. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 11:44, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Westworld spoiler removal

I've noticed that an information given about her role in the Westworld (TV series) spoils in part the finale of the first season, I suggest removing the mention from the introduction that she is actually "Wyatt" in addition to "Dolores Abernathy". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:2FB2:39C0:9465:2608:EC77:3480 (talk) 07:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

I removed it, not for spoiler reasons, but to my knowledge she hasn't been officially credited as 'Wyatt'. It's debatable whether Wyatt is actually a character at all. --SubSeven (talk) 07:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Religion

She don´t have religion, she said in her twitter acount, that she is spiritual. She wrote about one week ago, i supose in 1 of November of 2012.

Added something about it. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:06, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

This article states that she's Jewish and then in the next line refers to her "first family Christmas." Can anyone comment on this seeming contradiction? Though it's not unheard of for Jewish families in America to do some form of celebration for Christmas, it does seem awkward the way it's written. Also, the reference for that statement is no longer available through the posted link.

12.217.242.4 04:40, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Daniel

The same reference can be found here [1]. I agree that the Christmas reference is unnecessarily specific, since you could probably list a lot of holidays her family has celebrated. All Hallow's Wraith 04:50, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Currently the article in effect says she's not Jewish (by any of the commonly-used definitions of same), and then cats her that way anyway. (This and who know how many other bios in ethnic-category-happy Wikipedia.) I'm removing same, please don't add them back without putting the article into a consistent (and sourced) state. Alai (talk) 02:56, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't understand - the article states that she is Jewish. One of the references is to a DVD commentary in which Wood herself states that she is Jewish. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Urk, my bad: I think I must have muddled the statements here, and in the article on Nikki Reed. (Who, if she has a non-Jewish mother, isn't Jewish by the Orthodox definition, and if she doesn't self-identify, isn't Jewish by the Reform one. But that's work for another article...) Alai (talk) 07:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Nikki Reed referred to herself as Jewish on the Thirteen commentary as well ("here's a scene where my character wears a cross, even though I'm Jewish", which prompted Wood to point out that they are both Jewish in real life). I don't know how Jewish that makes Reed, but yes, that's for another article... All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 08:05, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
OK, that may make her "self-identifiedly ethnically but not religiously Jewish", or something similarly tortuous to that. I think I shall cut my loses, and withdraw from the field at this point. Alai (talk) 08:11, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

It would seem that there are many contradictions regarding Ms. Wood, She is apparently Jewish by nationality but not by faith. The second contradiction that is pretty obvious, her relationship with Marilyn Manson is a HUGE contradiction in itself. She is Jewish, he is a self professed Satan worshiper. The bible states that Satan is the exact opposite of everything God is, i.e. God is love, therefore Satan and his followers are not capable of loving anyone. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy all who follow him. I was really sad when I read this article as I saw her in Across the Universe and really liked her character. She makes a reference that her personality is alot like her character in Across the Universe, yet another contradiction. Her character in Across the Universe is a very sweet young lady, for anyone who has seen the Marilyn Manson Video "heart shaped glasses" will understand my point. - Jill —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.236.74.51 (talk) 05:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

In response to the above, Marilyn Manson is a member of LaVeyan Satanism, which if you take the time to read about it does not actually believe in Satan/the devil let alone worship him/it. It's not what you think. --- user:releasethedogs —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.104.201.234 (talk) 04:58, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

None of the above seems to come from anyone with any understanding of Jewishness or Judaism. Read Who is a Jew? for details. The bottom line is, It's Complicated. By Jewish law, if her mother is a Jew (and she is), then Wood is, whether she practices or not or believes or not. You could conceivably challenge the validity of her mother's conversion on the grounds that she married a Christian, but that's way, way, way beyond the scope of this article or any reliable source we're likely to find. Analyzing it here is Original Research. Jewish law recognizes no difference between "ethnically Jewish" and "religiously Jewish", and apparently neither Wood nor any other biographical source attempts to draw the distinction either.
The point Jill raises about Manson makes no difference to the question, and also actually gets Jewish theology completely wrong as well (she's applying purely Christian theology). Whether or not she's celebrated Christmas, or the theological views of boyfriends past or present is utterly irrelevant to the question of her Jewishness.
From a practical perspective, she self-identifies as Jewish, no reliable source has been produced to challenge her Jewishness, so as far as Wikipedia is concerned, she's Jewish. Period. The tag and mention of her religion is appropriate, and no qualifiers or parentheticals are justified. 131.96.13.213 (talk) 21:15, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

As for her ethnicity she is not Jewish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.15.62.205 (talk) 20:18, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

And in this case it is the ethnicity that matters only. Her mother has converted to Judaism - no Jew by birth -, and her father is a Christian. Hence: Not a single drop of Jewish blood. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:74:E2D:BA00:D70:95F2:B89D:E601 (talk) 15:50, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

GA Reassessment

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Evan Rachel Wood/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

Was flagged awhile ago for a reassessment and it currently has quite a lot of tags on it. I also could not find a proper GA review of this article in the first place. As well as the tags there is a focus issue. Under personal life we have a lot of information on relationships, which reads like a tabloid gossip mag. Either way I will trim that substantially if no one else does during the reassessment. In contrast there is only a sentence or two on her rape allegations. The awards and nominations section is unreferenced too. AIRcorn (talk) 22:02, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
