Pausanias

The editors mention Pausanias as the source of the myth they cite. I'm looking at Pausanias right now. His version is a bit different from what they have here. I believe Pausanias is the only source of the myth, which is obviously mythical, as it makes use of eponymous ancestors. So, I will have to alter it to conform to Pausanias. I notice the nice neat little succession box. This might disorder the line a bit. I want to say, though, that there was no master mythologist making sure all the Greek myths made sense and did not contradict each other. Mythology is not science and reason. It is aetiology. They make up a story to explain some phase of their culture and that story become part of the culture. So, if we are going to cite Pausanias I think we will have to live with their total unreasonableness and failure to make documentary and scientifically analytical sense.Dave (talk) 09:09, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
