The result of the proposal was no consensus. --BDD (talk) 00:36, 15 January 2013 (UTC) (non-admin closure)[reply]

Eugene Francis KinkeadEugene F. Kinkead – This page was moved about a week ago after a move proposal in which no one commented. The user who proposed the move is currently prohibited from making moves without first using the requested move process after they were have found to repeatedly ignore the basic rules of [[WP:Commonname]] in an ANI discussion. While this specific move did use the proper process, the rationale was blatantly false and misleading. While the three pages linked in this article may use the subjects full name, Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) that these always do so regardless of what the subject is best known by. A google news archive search shows that almost all (and maybe even all) coverage of the congressman used the middle initial. Indeed, even the full name loving New York Times does not seem to go with the full middle name. While it may sound like I'm assuming bad faith here, it's hard to understand how an editor, who has been in numerous conflicts and has been reprimanded before for weaseling around common name requirements, could possibly find that the "bulk of references" available for this article use the name he proposed. Relisted. BDD (talk) 18:24, 7 January 2013 (UTC) Yaksar (let's chat) 09:54, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: The three references in the article use the full name as claimed. The article was created with these three, and no inline citations at all [1] and that is still the case (I have not checked any intermediate edits to see whether it was always the case). Considering the stubby nature of the article, the lack of inline citations is understandable, but still not good. So perhaps you might consider adding some inline citations, or at least some references that use the proposed (and former) article name? This would not only support the discussion here, inline citations would be an improvement to the article, and address a more significant issue than whether we use the full middle name or the initial in the title. Some of the Google News hits [2] [3] appear to refer to incidents which might be significant enough to add to the article, I don't know enough about US politics to be sure. Both names are obviously attested, it's just a question of which is the better. I'll attempt not to become involved in the discussion in any way that would preclude me moving the article back depending on the discussion here. It would be better perhaps for some other admin to do it but I'm quite happy to follow this through if needed. Andrewa (talk) 16:47, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the proposal was move per request. Indeed, a Google Books search is just as overwhelmingly one-sided as the news archive search.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:33, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eugene Francis KinkeadEugene F. Kinkead – Per WP:COMMONNAME. The text of each of the cited sources refers to him with his middle initial. A google news archive search shows that almost all (and maybe even all) coverage of the congressman used the middle initial. Indeed, even the full name loving New York Times does not go with the full middle name. While the external links use the full name, this is standard for those three websites and does not reflect Wikipedia common name policy. Yaksar (let's chat) 15:34, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
