Not an Ace
[edit]Just a note for future reference - Eugene Bullard is not a flying ace, but is currently categorized as one on wikipedia. I plan to remove him from this category, but add him to the main Aviation in World War I page so he can be found that way. FranksValli 03:35, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Also shouldn't he be in the french flying side? He was never allowed to fly on the american side, so I believe he should be left in the french catagory. 71.115.231.8 (talk) 01:19, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

First?
[edit]The article claims first but does not give an exact date when he started flying. By comparison, the Ahmet Ali Çelikten article indicates that he may have a prior claim as it were. GraemeLeggett (talk) 20:31, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
Ahmet Ali Çelikten started serving in 1908, and Eugene Bullard in 1914. So Eugene is the second and there is no doubt in this. The article should be corrected. bilgin_adem — Preceding undated comment added 12:17, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
At least three black pilots in WW1
[edit]The article mentions that Eugene was one of only two black pilots in world war one, the other being Ahmet Ali Çelikten. However, there was at least one black pilot who flew for Britain during WW1 in the RFC. His name was Sgt William Robinson Clarke. I don't have a primary source but here is a link to his profile on the RAF museum's website: http://www.rafmuseumstoryvault.org.uk/sheet/spotlight-pilots-of-the-caribbean — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.27.121.150 (talk) 17:26, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- In addition to this comment, there was at least one Afro-American pilot in the French Air Force : Pierre Réjon. So long for "Bullard an Celikten only black pilots in WWI". 78.232.54.121 (talk) 11:36, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
Peer-review
[edit]IMHO, this article went far beyond its Start-Class designation and fully meets the B-Class requirements:
"An article that reaches the B-Class level is complete in content and structure, adequately referenced, and includes reasonable supporting materials; overall, it provides a satisfactory encyclopedic presentation of the topic for the average reader, although it may not be written to the standard that would be expected by an expert. Articles at this stage commonly undergo peer review to solicit ideas for further improvement. B-Class is the final assessment level that can be reached without undergoing a formal review process."
I would like also to nominate it for peer-review. Thanks, --Murus (talk) 21:49, 17 April 2015 (UTC) Disclaimer: This is not my article, although I've contributed to it.
- G'day, if you are interested in listing this article for a peer review, this can be done over at Wikipedia:Peer review following the instructions here: Wikipedia:Peer review/guidelines. My own assessment, though, is that it doesn't meet the B-class referencing standards, yet, and I think that the lead probably should be expanded a bit more. I can see a lot of effort has gone into the article, though, which is great to see. Thank you. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 02:53, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
The first Haitian-American and one of the first black military pilots?
[edit]"Was the first Haitian-American and one of the first black military pilots" --is an awkward sentence
I don't think he was the first Haitian-American — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.98.228.3 (talk) 01:45, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right thanks. He is primarily an African American (US-black ancestry), with a background of HT-decent on father's side. Savvyjack23 (talk) 02:11, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Eugene Bullard Honors
[edit]If half or more of his Wiki Bio is true, why hasn't Mr. Bullard been Honored with a postage stamp by both France and the USA? Or has he been so honored? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmmanuto (talk • contribs) 06:23, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

the "hirondelles noires de la mort"
[edit]The motto of the 170th regiment which Bullard served in was the "hirondelles de la mort" As the only black man in the regiment he got his nickname the "hirondelle noire de la mort".
