Russian or Ukranian roots? Or both? And in what language(s) should we spell his name?
[edit]I have observed some discussion/debate in the edit comments about the Ukranian or Russian nature of Slutsky's roots. I don't know the answer myself. With the recent edits by 62.221.47.223 to change the Russian language spelling to Ukranian, I think this ought to be hashed out on the talk page rather than in opposing edits on the main page. So started this section to start the discussion. N2e 16:32, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Highly likely he had Jewish roots. Slutsky is a wide spread surname between Jews, as well as his mother's surname - Bondi. Moreover, in some articles it's claimed that his father was appointed a director of Jewish school. However, I didn't meet any sources, in which Slutsky's ethnicity was specified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.254.75.242 (talk) 20:35, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Update. It appears that Bondi were not Jews, but French aristocrats (maybe later mixed with Russian nobility). His mother's direct ancestor Taillepieds (?) Bondy emigrated to Odessa with Duke de Richelieu after the French Revolution, but unlike Richelieu did not return home after 1815. However, father's roots still remain unclear. I think they are either Jewish or Ukrainian-Belorussian.
Slutsky -- little known in the West
[edit]I made a major update to the article, relying substantially on Barnett's 2004 journal article.
There is a wealth of additional biographical and other information about EES in the Barnett article, simply awaiting a Wikipedian to do additional research and synopsis. N2e 23:10, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Slutsky's brief bio is in Russian article
[edit]the Russian wikipedia contains his biography. Just in case somebody out there knows Russian and wants to translate and incorporate it here :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.104.52 (talk) 20:50, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
