Suggestion for expansion

[edit]

Very interesting topic. May I suggest renaming and expanding the article to something like "Controversy over former Wehrmacht soldiers as Bundeswehr role models"? What is written here also applies to various extend and with various levels of coverage to Hans-Joachim Marseille (de:Marseille-Kaserne), Helmut Lent (de:Lent-Kaserne) and Adelbert Schulz (Schulz-Lutz Kaserne in Munster), to name a few that immediately come to my mind (there are probably others). The book Knab, Jakob (1995). Falsche Glorie: das Traditionsverständnis der Bundeswehr [False Glory: the Bundeswehr's Understanding of Tradition] (in German). ISBN 3-86153-089-9. may be a good entry point to get an understanding of the order of magnitude of this subject. MisterBee1966 (talk) 07:44, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

The current title is rather unwieldy. Could Erwin Rommel and the Bundeswehr be a shorter alternative? Or Rommel myth and the Bundeswehr? —Brigade Piron (talk) 10:31, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Scope expansion

[edit]

The article discusses the controversy of Rommel being a Bundeswehr role model, but not why and how he became one on the first place and the particulars of his commemoration and the use of his image in the forces. With the retitling of the article, I think the scope should be expanded to explain to unacquainted viewers the background of this situation. MSG17 (talk) 15:35, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
