Does he have an alias? I wasn't able to find his name credited for the Mandy Moore film "dedication" on IMDB, nor on the movie's website http://www.dedicationmovie.net/--Biggayallison (talk) 19:35, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The source that reported his death suggests, in the 10th paragraph, that "Erik Rhodes" was a stage name and his real first name was James, no surname given. See [1]. Guyovski (talk) 20:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Survived AfD

[edit]

I've restored this article, minus the speedy tag, after realizing by reading the talk page that it survived an AfD process, the result of which was "keep". It doesn't seem to have much notability to me, but I respect the result of the process. Please note for the future that if it's desired to delete this article, deletion review is the only way possible. Accounting4Taste:talk 19:49, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is wrong... you can renominate for AFD whenever you want. It helps to have a new argument/evidence/reason for the AFD though. After 1.5 years there's really no way to review a close like this... a new AFD is just needed. --W.marsh 00:46, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Quite right, I was mistaken about the policy and should have chosen my words more carefully. Accounting4Taste:talk 01:23, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

personal life section needs to be reviewed and edited

[edit]

the newly added personal life section needs to seriously be reviewed and edited. it is HIGHLY biased poorly written and is an obvious attempt at bashing another person. the statements made are obvious attacks on Rhodes character especially some of the more personal facts. while he did state his real name on his blog he purposely omitted his last name for a reason. on top of that whoever has edited the personal life section has made statements that lack validity and cannot be confirmed in the site beginning used as a reference. while Rhodes admits to becoming enraged and even having the police called during one of the arguments between himself and his former boyfriend. the statements of 'blood everywhere' and serious injury upon his former boyfriend are never stated within the blog entry being cited and are therefore libel and should seriously be edited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stellrmn (talkcontribs) 04:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. According to WP:BLP, poorly sourced and biased material should be deleted immediately. I have gone ahead and done just that, but don't feel shy about doing it yourself in the future. -Todd(Talk-Contribs) 11:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is new personal information in his death notice, referenced in my reply higher up on this talk page. If anyone wants to expand the article on that basis, feel free. Guyovski (talk) 21:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Before we have an edit war

[edit]

Another editor quoted long passages from what was alleged to be Rhodes' blog, added a long two-paragraph quotation from a press release issued by his employer after his death, and then included a bare self-promotional link in the text of the article. I've deleted them all. If my changes are reverted without prior discussion, I shall get the administrators involved. So, whoever this editor is, please let's talk about it. Guyovski (talk) 02:21, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just providing additional information that Rhodes' actual blog, formerly listed under External Links, appears to have been taken offline by the service provider. See this edit by another editor: [2]. Guyovski (talk) 03:10, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Guyoski. I agree that the section you deleted contained too many blog entries and should not have included "the full story here." But like I wrote in the wp:teahouse, blogs can be used as sources about their own authors, provided that all the conditions listed in the policy are met. Also, sources that have turned into dead links can still be used as sources! Something like The Wayback Machine could retrieve the lost content. Perhaps the information should've been pruned and edited rather than deleted - but I'm not going to get involved, I haven't thoroughly reviewed the issue, and I leave it up to the editors involved. ʝunglejill 07:23, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the material belongs from an editorial standpoint, it is in the form of quotations, and so it cannot remain on the page without inline citations following each quotation. This is core policy.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 07:30, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • I think you can expand more the lead section
    • Noted his cause of death in the lead.

Biography

[edit]
  • Ref 3 says Erik was also a go-go dancer
    • Added
  • Isn't there any info about where Erik studied, information about his parents or something about his family?
    • I don't think so; the NYT obit seems to be the only real mainstream, reliable coverage of his life.
  • You should include reviews and commentary about Erik's performances, for both of his porn and non-pornographic works
    • Not sure where I could find reviews of that nature, let alone reviews that would be deemed permissible as a reliable source.
  • You may expand about Erik's nominations on numerous awards, because the section doesn's specify the awards' names
    • Sorry, I'm not sure what this note means. The award names are listed under "Award" in the table.
  • "the 2007 film The Ivy League, for which he won two Grabby Awards." the source doesn't list Erik as a winner, not even as a nominee
    • It's there, you just have to click "Performers" in the "Category" menu.
  • Include information about Erik's personal life
    • Can you be more specific?
  • " Since 2008 he was in a committed, romantic relationship with a man named Anthony.[19]" Facebook isn't the most reliable source, find a better one. Also, you may include they broke up shortly before Erik's death, since ref 1 says: "...the breakup of his four year relationship earlier this year."
    • Removed, looks like this was added to the article randomly at some pint
  • Can you find a better source to Erik's appearance on Dedication? Apparently, his scenes were edited out, but there are no other sources talking about the matter
    • Unfortunately, I could not find another source for this claim.

References

[edit]
  • Ref. 10 doesn't work
    • Repaired
  • Steroids.info looks like a blog, find a better source
    • Removed
  • Sore Butt Cheeks is a blog, remove it
  • Ref 63 doesn't show the nominees, only the winners
    • Added supporting reference
