Operation Elster

[edit]

Hello, I dont know the details of Gimpel, but there was some interaction with him and an Irish POW called John Codd, they were supposed to go on Operation Elster (plan to spy on/steal the Manhatten project) together before Otto Skozeny dropped Codd.

There is also a mention of an Operation Pelican- anyone know anything about that? Thanks. And is it worth writing a Operation Elster article and incorporating the details in this article? Ive done a series on German Intelligence in Ireland accessible via Operation Lobster. Let me know, thanks. Fluffy999 20:17, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Pelican was a plan to destroy the Panama Canal. The Germans would take 2 U-boats to South America with disassembled plane parts. Once Landing in South America they would assemble the 2 planes and bomb the canal with 2 very explosive bombs. The mission was called off last second for fear that the mission was leaked. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt dogs66 (talkcontribs) 19:26, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Time of death

[edit]

According to the blurb of his book at Amazon, Gimpel died in Germany in 1996. I am removing the reference to his 94th birthday until this can be verified.

Also, how could he have been interviewed for the 2003 episode of Oliver North's show if he died in 1996? This is very strange. Canadian Paul 00:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erich Gimpel did not died in 1996 in Germany, which can be seen watching the interview that was given to Fox News Channel, he is alive and lives in Brazil, approximately 50 years, with 99 years old and is well of health. I can prove this, because he is my grandfather and I see him every day. He's history can be seen through his book, Agent 146. --Cayto

See Axis History which gives his death as being in São Paulo, Brazil "last week" (03/09/2010) at the age of 100 years and 6 months. However no confirmation.Harrypotter (talk) 19:18, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
