  • Comment: If you happen to fall down the rabbit hole and become confused as to whether the deity depicted in the shrine is Hindu or Buddhist, the short answer is it doesn't matter either way. The long answer is that while Buddhist cosmology attributes alternative meanings to several Hindu deities, in practice the distinction isn't often made. The spiritual practices undertaken at the shrine follow neither Hindu nor Buddhist religious rites anyway, but really are a mixture of these religions with folk animist beliefs, a very common thing in Thailand.
