"Moving Equator"
[edit]"The equator monument is not on the equator any more. The equator has moved slightly southwards and there is another line outside the monument, that shows the recorded position in 2005. The position of the equator in 2010 is even further south and in the river, as a GPS device can confirm."
This can hardly be accurate. The equator does not move. Possibly the monument was poorly positioned and was never on the equator to begin with, but that is not the same thing. (Land masses may also move relative to the equator, but only over significantly longer spans of time.) RandomCritic (talk) 01:09, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- I wondered about this, too. This was added in November 2010 by a two-edit contributor, so make of that what you will: It turns out the Equator does move, slightly (about 9 metres), throughout the year, but not enough to warrant the comment (which is still inaccurate as it stands). The other thing that varies is GPS, depending on which grid is being used.
- I've tagged the comment as dubious, and the article as a whole lacks citations, so if nothing is forthcoming soon it should be deleted. Moonraker12 (talk) 22:32, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
