Source

[edit]

The source is actually quite specific to Norfolk, so what justification is there to say England rather than the British Isles? ðarkuncoll 15:33, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway I've swapped round the references, this one specifically says British Isles, which is far more sensible than using a reference confined to Norfolk. ðarkuncoll 17:33, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hooray! Someone's actually done it correctly. Good find Tharkun. Black Kite 17:44, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, sorry, no hooray from me. Read the text, "It is generally distributed throughout the British Isles". Very informative, except it is misleading, because they are also found in Belgium and the Netherlands. I'm sure if I look carefully enough I can show that they are found scattered throughout Europe. Why are the British Isles specifically mentioned in the text? Jack forbes (talk) 18:52, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Because that's what the source says? (I've fixed it so that it doesn't read like the species is confined to the British Isles). Of course, feel free to find a source which quotes flying seasons for Europe as well ... Black Kite 18:56, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm really not trying to be pedantic here. The flying season in Belgium is exactly the same. If the text were to say Belgium rather than British Isles do you think that would be acceptable? I'll have a look for some sources on European or northern European flying seasons as if they are all the same it would be more accurate to describe it in the European context Jack forbes (talk) 19:05, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. Black Kite 19:11, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If there is anyone out there better than myself at searching for good sources or can read German or Dutch (there are loads of sources in those languages) they can maybe find something I can't. I have to say though, Black Kite. It does seem peculiar that British Isles gets a mention when sources on the article page also mention Belgium and the Netherlands. I'll leave it to others. Jack forbes (talk) 19:43, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing peculiar about it whatsoever. The source is specific to the British Isles. By all means find another one for Netherlands and Belgium, then we could include that informaation as well as, not instead of, the British Isles source. As for sources in other languages - that's not a good idea. This is an English language wikipedia and sources should be in English wherever possible. Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but it seems like you're going out of your way to find a reason to exclude the term British Isles. MidnightBlue (Talk) 20:21, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your wrong, and I forgive you. There is a specific source on the article page giving exactly the same flying seasons in Belgium as the British Isles. You say it should be added, so I'll leave it to you to do that as I have already stated that I will leave it to others. PS, I stand by the points I made above. Jack forbes (talk) 20:33, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've tried. Not sure if "adjoining" is the right word, but at least it keeps good old British Isles in there (only joking). MidnightBlue (Talk) 20:41, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder, have you looked for any sources that would confirm the flying season is the same throughout Europe or Northern Europe? Anything to improve wikipedia articles is always appreciated. Cheers. Jack forbes (talk) 20:50, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
