Requested move 22 October 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Not moved. Consensus is to use his first name, not Kiké/Kike. Moving the page to the basename should be discussed in a separate RM. (closed by non-admin page mover) -- Calidum 18:59, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
Enrique Hernández (baseball) → Kiké Hernández – Per WP:NATURAL and WP:COMMONNAME. He is called Kiké Hernández in many media outlets [1] [2] [3] [4], as well as BBRef [5]. 162 etc. (talk) 03:28, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- Move to Kike Hernández per WP:SPNC. He himself spells his nickname without the accent. (This is far from the first time the anti-Semitic slur in question has affected the Red Sox!) O.N.R. (talk) 12:13, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support Kike Hernández per above.--Ortizesp (talk) 13:12, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose The name of the article should be kept as "Enrique Hernández." Yes, his nickname is Kike (spelled without a tilde, as was pointed out above), but he goes by his given name (Enrique) in formal contexts. But if there is a consensus to rename his page to that of his nickname, then it should be "Kike Hernández," not the unorthographical "Kiké" (which would change its pronunciation to "kee-KAY"). - As an aside, I believe it's an acute accent. Dmoore5556 (talk) 01:01, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, in French orthography, it's an acute accent, in contradistinction to the grave (which faces the other way) and the circumflex (the "hat"). But in Spanish, unlike in French, that particular mark can be used on the vowels a, e, i or u (in French, acute accents only go on the "e") and it is known as a "tilde" (or an "acento ortográfico"). - As an aside, I believe it's an acute accent. Dmoore5556 (talk) 01:01, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. MLB uses his full name as does his twitter account. Spanneraol (talk) 15:52, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. As of right now, he's officially billed as Enrique by MLB, and it's the name he uses on his social media profile. However, I would not oppose a move to Enrique Hernández as this appears to be the fairly obvious primary topic [6] Nohomersryan (talk) 18:18, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- Agree with that point as seen per pageviews analysis, moving this to base name and use Enrique Hernández (disambiguation) for the list of all people with the exact name or an expansion of the said name. Not sure if nicknames are generally against the naming convention to be honest. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 17:47, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- Weak oppose. In my observation, Boston sports media call him Kike a majority of the time (written as Kiké in The Boston Globe) but as other editors have highlighted above, MLB and the player himself still use Enrique. I do agree that he is the primary topic for Enrique Hernández, and I'd support that move (drop the "baseball" dab). Dmoore5556 (talk) 01:01, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
