Ennis Population

[edit]

CSO [1] says 2002 population of ennis is 18,830.

___________________________1996---2002---M--F--%--
Ennis Ennis Town – 15,333 18,830 9,018 9,812 22.8

Ennis Rural* 32 519 1,194 609 585 130.1

You are right, but it looks that there are far more deficiencies in the numbers. Looking into it, I got different numbers for the same year. I think it is a case of definition about what is Ennis. Changing boundaries can have major influences. Some expert should take a look at this. The Banner talk 23:32, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ennis Ranking in Munster

[edit]

Cork City: 119,230
Limerick: 91,454
Waterford: 51,519
Ennis: 25,360
Ennis is the 4th largest town in Munster, not "the largest town" in Munster as stated in paragraph 1.
Am I missing something here? Renglish (talk) 22:41, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cork, Limerick, Waterford are cities, not towns. But it's unnecessarily confusing, so I've added an explanatory note.--A bit iffy (talk) 23:19, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information Age Town

[edit]

I think it might be appropriate to include some detail about this aspect of Ennis's history. How the town was selected for the honour, how the project was implemented, and what the lasting effects were. Perhaps there is someone who has good information about this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.108.200.1 (talk) 14:13, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can I add the following link: http://www.360eire.com/360eire/Mumhan/ContaeanChlair/ennis/inis.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dialinn (talkcontribs) 11:59, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please can we have an explanation of what JAL is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.183.187 (talk) 20:44, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Muhammed Ali

[edit]

Unfortunately, the claim that Muahmmed Ali has ties with Ennis, is in fact nonsense. Okay, it is an impopular stance but it is a fact. I have seen the original claim from Imelda O'Grady and the proof of her claims. As a genealogist myself, I would never had made such a wild claim based on so shaky evidence. It would have not appeared in my own research... (mail me if you want a link to my homepage with my genealogical research) Night of the Big Wind talk 23:24, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contrary to what was put in the article, it are not just two historians and genealogists who dispute the claim. At that time I was a member of the Clare Genealogical Society, and most of their members disagreed with the claim. At a meeting of the Clare Historical Society the same opinion could be heard. But it would be a major embarrasment and bad for the local economy to make a U-turn. Night of the Big Wind talk 12:10, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Only two can be reliably sourced; not giving the number makes it seem like there's a professional consensus in the field overall. Would you be more comfortable with stating that "some historians" dispute it? Beyond that, it sounds like you might be emphasizing too much your own opinion on the matter, which regardless of your professional qualifications makes it WP:OR when not attributed to a reliable source. The fact that Ali was given a monument in the town is relevant, so whether or not the purported tie turns out to be factually incorrect, it still should be noted and the dispute described to the extent that it is verifiable. postdlf (talk) 14:21, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The present state of the article is good enough for me. It is a fact that Ali got the Freemanship, it is a fact that it is disputed. That is all sourced. My personal opinion is now only stated here, on the talkpage, just for the record. And it also serves as declaration of a possible COI. Night of the Big Wind talk 17:22, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ungrammatical

[edit]

Parts of this article are so ungrammatical as to be embarrassing.

"Ennis has many Sports facitities including the Lees Road Sports and Amenity Park (See Main Article), The Fair Green which has a Children's Playground and numerous football pitches. The Ennis Leisure Centre has a fully equipped Gym with a 25m pool, Saunas etc. There are a number of Hotels around Ennis that have their own Leisure facilities including Gyms and 15m to 20m Pools.

"The Lees Road Sports and Amenity Park, just 1 km from the town centre, is set in 134 acres (54 ha) of wood and park land. There is ample car parking and the main building includes modern changing rooms, showers and toilets. Among the facilities available are – 4 conventional playing pitches, full size all weather floodlit playing pitch, floodlit 400 m (1,300 ft) synthetic running track"

It's as though it's been written by someone still learning English.

Haldraper (talk) 08:40, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You concentrate on Lees Road now, but do you have a proper explanation for the complete removal of The Irish name for the town is short for Inis Cluain Ramh Fhada ("island of the long rowing meadow")? The Banner talk 09:03, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You were so nicely bashing on the capitals, that you never noticed that the info was twice in the article. (I admit, I noticed it only now). The Banner talk 09:08, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have literally no idea what Banner is on about with his repeated claims of "POV-pushing" and "vandalism" regarding my recent edits to improve the flow, syntax and grammar of this article. I have asked him to expand in terms of Wikipedia policy but so far he has only responded with cryptic edit summaries. He should also assume good faith. Haldraper (talk) 10:18, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Then you better read again. Your edit is not an improvement but the opposite. Still you keep banging it in without any decent explanation. The Banner talk 10:45, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What I object to most of all are your (still unsubstantiated) claims of vandalism and POV-pushing. As I said above, you need to assume good faith. Haldraper (talk) 11:07, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to de-capitalise where appropriate. Regarding the lead, your edits are not helpful or an improvement IMHO. Laurel Lodged (talk) 18:27, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop edit-warring. If you disagree in regard to the lead, this should be discussed here. I personally would prefer a lead where Ennis is named as county town in its first sentence. And I also think that the observation that Ennis is the largest town of the county is best integrated in the last sentence of the lead where the number of citizens is given and the ranking regarding its size in Ireland. --AFBorchert (talk) 20:02, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Demonym change

[edit]

Hello, I changed the demonym from "ennisite" to "ennisman". I have never nor seen a person, newspaper, state official, or otherwise use the term "ennisite". I have only ever head the term "ennisman" or "enniswoman" used. Feel free to correct if I am wrong and you can find a sound source indicating this. 89.101.11.106 (talk) 19:23, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
