Cancellation of the VFA
[edit]From a recent edit to the Visiting Forces Agreement (Philippines – United States) article:
On February 7, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte officially ordered the termination of the VFA as a response to an accumulation of a series of "disrespectful acts" by a few US senators directed against the sovereignty of the Republic of the Philippines.[1]
I imagine that this will impact the EDCA. I took a quick look at the article and it looks to me that more than a drive-by edit is needed here and that's all I have time for right now, so I'm leaving this information here. Hopefully someone interested in maintaining this article will review it. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 23:49, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
Apparently, the Philippines has now notified the U.S. of intent to terminate the VFA; see e.g., this. The VFA article has been edited to reflect this. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 14:13, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Editor Trying To Gain Fame
[edit]Wiki editor has put two different links to what is the same document, a U.S. document that she has linked to a Philippines website, and then a second link to a copy that she downloaded to her Wiki page (I guess?). I'm not complaining -- it is just that both "links" should point to the ACTUAL DOCUMENT on the U.S. Government website. Of course, this document is the literal SUBJECT of this Wikipedia Article, the "Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement" which exists in its original form at:
https://www.state.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/14-625-Philippines-Defense-Cooperation.pdf
Apparently I don't have the skill to fix this. The inappropriate links currently on the page (on Mar 3, 2023) are #17, and #18, but also are specifically:
INAPPROPRIATE #1: https://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/2014/04/29/document-enhanced-defense-cooperation-agreement/
INAPPROPRIATE #2: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EDCA_2014_(Digital_PDF_Copy).pdf
Thanks to anyone who knows how to fix these links to point to a more correct Reliable Source 71.32.65.220 (talk) 20:06, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- The first of those links is to a web page on an RP Govt site, the second is a Wikimedia web page; the link you offer is on a US Govt site. As you say, there's no need to link two separate pages presenting copies of the same document. I've fixed this here, linking just the copy on the RP Govt website.
