British Empire end

[edit]

The year the British Empire ended is cited as 1997, but there are still colonial possessions in the form of British Overseas Territories. I assume the 1997 references the hand over of Hong Kong, however all this amounts to is a loss of 1 of the Overseas Territories.

If 1997 is to be included, someone should provide a sound reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dfsdfsdfsdf4 (talkcontribs) 22:07, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's cited in the British Empire article: 'The handover ceremony in 1997 marked for many,[210] including Charles, Prince of Wales,[211] who was in attendance, "the end of Empire".[203][212]' See the associated references. Allens (talk | contribs) 23:02, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

References cited; in actuality, you are the one who needs to provide references, as the one who made the change. Allens (talk | contribs) 00:08, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It looks more like a euphemism for the Hong Kong handover and loss of most of the important ones, and not an actual end. Literally, it didn't end, since there are still colonial possessions. Particularly, the Falklands are a sign the Empire is still extant. 70.24.251.208 (talk) 13:13, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
