Correction of this article

[edit]

As the author of the article on Engelbert Mühlbacher in the German wikipedia, I’ve just corrected the following mistakes in this article, which stated in its first version,

  • Born in Gresten, he received his classical education in Vienna, his father's native city.

Two mistakes in one sentence. Mühlbacher received his education in Linz, and his father’s home town was not Vienna, but Traunkirchen in Upper Austria.

How could Mühlbacher have received the title of a doctor of theology from Ficker who was not even a theologian but a historian? No, Mühlbacher of course received the degree of a doctor of philosophy, this being the title which is awarded for a historical dissertation.

The sources of my corrections are the Engelbert Mühlbacher obituaries which I have listed at the end of my German wikipedia article.

Besides, my general recommendation for the authors of Germany- and Austria-related English wikipedia articles is: Why not read the German wikipedia articles first (if you can’t speak German, you can use online translators) and then base your articles upon that, rather than using some unreliable and outdated English sources (as in this case the Catholic Encyclopedia of 1911, where the abovementioned mistakes came from).

If the first author of this article had bothered to read and understand my German wikipedia article on Engelbert Mühlbacher, he would have found that I’ve already there pointed out and corrected the mistakes of the Catholic Encyclopedia (see at the bottom of the German article under weblinks).
