Deus Caritas Est
I moved the date from Pope Benedict XVI's encyclical from 2005 to 2006. While Deus Caritas Est was written in latin at the end of december 2005, it was only released the 25th of january 2006.

- I reverted that date to 2005, since it was actually signed in 2005. —Preost talk contribs 23:32, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Apostolic letters
I'd love to know the difference between a Papal Encyclical and an Apostolic Letter. Could that be included here? StAnselm 08:37, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Peter's "encyclicals"
1 Peter and 2 Peter are (1) epistles, not encyclicals and (2) very likely not actually by St Peter. Jhobson1 12:37, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
"Can be infallible"?
The article states: Pope Pius XII held that Papal Encyclicals can be infallible. Is this not the same as saying Pope Pius XII held that Papal Encyclicals (in the general sense) are fallible? And, if so, is that what's intended? --Ds13 20:49, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've fixed the interpretation sentence to correctly reflect what the quote actually says. -- Cat Whisperer 01:38, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
The specific topic that Pius was referring to in that section of Humani Generis was the question of whether or not non-Catholic Christians were truly members of the Church of Christ. In a previous encyclical Mystici Corporis (1943), he said "No" in no uncertain terms: "Those who are divided in faith or government cannot be living in the one body ... and cannot be living the life of its one divine Spirit." However, the Second Vatican Council document Unitatis Redintegratio reversed that opinion. Thus, Pius's statement was clearly not infallible. Should this be mentioned? Important X encyclicals
In the list sections, what does "important" mean? Melchoir 19:37, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
I second the question. It seems to me that, for recent popes, we are listing all of their work product. Propose that we pare back the list to those encyclicals that actually merit discussion in the biographical entry for that particular pontiff. Carlos_X (talk) 02:02, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Bulls not Encyclicals
Clicking on a couple of links I have noticed that some were actually Bulls such as Sicut Dudum. Would it be possible for somebody with more knowledge in this field to update the list --Frozenport (talk) 01:00, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
