Cause of Death

- Well, I think Zizhi Tongjian is probably sufficiently reliable -- and it stated that initially, Liu Yu was trying to poison him, but could not because Sima Dewen (the later Emperor Gong) guarded him closely, and that he was strangled during Sima Dewen's illness.
