Considering "Infinite" a studio album

Eminem created slim shady records as an outlet ot his aggression. Although many millions of people have adored Marshall for his music, he has managed to gain the hatred of other millions world-wide. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.241.196.12 (talk) 15:04, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

To anybody outside the narrow circle of people who edit this article, referring to "The Slim Shady LP" as Eminem's second album or to "Relapse" as his sixth -- in other words, considering "Infinite" a studio album among his others -- is completely odd and nitpicky. I understand that "Infinite" is a studio album, but it does not belong in any list of "Eminem's studio albums" for a variety of reasons. The best reason is that Eminem's official website does not mention it as such (it does not mention it at all). In my opinion, Eminem's website -- not the editors of Wikipedia -- is the definitive authority on what does and does not belong in a list of Eminem's albums. I propose that a new category for "independent releases" be made for "Infinite" and other releases that qualify (e.g., "The Slim Shady EP") and that we stop playing by our own rules.

During the inital release of Infinite, Eminem was closely associated with Rap Battling. For GOOD EXAMPLES of Rap Battles in Text and Audio Format, visit http://www.AveMcs.com

'How Come' from the alubum 'D12 World

This track should also be added to Eminem's number one single list.. if 'My Band' was added as well.. As the song reached No.1 in several countries, visit the 'How Come' page for further info. So the opening should now say Eminem has had 13 No.1 singles...

Also Jimmy Crack Corn was a no.1 single along wth forever with drake lil wayne and kanye west, so he should have 15 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.113.189.78 (talk) 20:58, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Abusive Parent

Eminem's Father left him when he was very young. His line from "My Name Is"showed hatred for his father. It was"By the the way if you see my dad tell him I slit his throat in this dream I had!".But you must understand why he hates his parents. In "cleaning out my closet"he explained that his mother was"poppin' pescription pills in the kitchen ***** and looking through her purse and****s missin'".His mother abused him but she "made that CD for (him) MA?!so you could try to justify the way you treated(him) MA?!" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.218.155.31 (talk) 01:32, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

His songs may be deep but may not be true... He can be biased sometimes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aquibmsa (talkcontribs) 02:18, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Aquibmsa is right, we can't use his song lyrics as a source for anything. He's got an artistic license that protects him from slander/libel, we don't. If you are interested in adding biographical content, you might want to see what you can find in his autobiography. But even then, keep in mind that autobiographies have minor WP:Conflict of interest issues. -Verdatum (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Not everything Eminem raps about is truth. As you can probably tell, he's got a twisted sense of humor and he often incorporates things into his music that are just crazy for the sake of humor. If we were to use his music as a source to describe how or why his parents were abusive, someone could also use that same logic to use it as a source to describe him as a serial killer.--Wck619 (talk) 18:48, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Birthyear and birthplace

According to the official Eminem site, he was born in 1973 (not 1972 as the page currently reads as of Feb 13, 2010). The day and month are correct. His birthplace is Kansas City, Missouri, not St Joseph.

Reference: http://www.eminem.net/biography/ 99.246.81.77 (talk) 04:43, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

eminem.net is an unofficial fansite, and the biography linked above does not have citations. Further, the section "Biography 2" of that link does state St. Joseph, and 1972. More reputable sources are needed to counter the existing ones. Again, for more on the birthplace issue, see Talk:Eminem/Archive 5#Eminem Never Lived In Kansas City. -Verdatum (talk) 17:18, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Promo Tapes and Soul Intent tapes

I was just wondering why there isn’t a section with Eminem’s promo tapes and tapes by soul intent with Eminem are not listed. Or make a category and put them in. The slim shady promo tape and Marshal Mather’s promo tape have various unreleased crank calls on them. They all are official and if you are a true Eminem fan u should know. These are The Bassment Files, The Marshall Mather’s LP (Promo), The Slim Shady LP (Promo), Soul Intent (Demo), and Steppin' Onto the Scene EP, and Still in the Bassmint. I have all the covers and track listing if anyone wanted to add them. Please hit me back. And please don’t comment and be a prick or rude was just wondering that’s all.

Side note Eminem is not horrorcore he might have a few songs that fit that genre just like the Geto Boys, but as a whole he is not horrocore ICP, Twiztid, Necro, Cage, and The Gravediggaz are horrorcore not Eminem. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Numberonesoldjah (talkcontribs) 05:45, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Fragmented Sentences

"The Eminem Show is a hip hop classic and has been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Selling over 10 million in the United States and well over 20 million worldwide. Making eminem one of the only artists to ever have two diamond albums both of which selling over 20 million worldwide."

This section has sentence fragments, and "Eminem" doesn't have the 'e' capitalized at one point. Also, it has a redundant link to the RIAA page, and calling his album a "hip hop classic" is an opinion, not a fact.

It should be worded something like this (assuming the facts in it are even true - I don't know if they are or not): "The Eminem Show has been certified diamond by the RIAA, selling over 10 million copies in the US and over 20 million worldwide. This makes Eminem one of the only artists to have two albums go diamond and sell over 20 million copies worldwide." Truly Bad Timing (talk) 19:54, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

I think this information is obvious...he raps about it all over Recovery. "Going Through Changes" is all about his over dose. Splitting the 6th and 7th albums

I hate to be nit picky but in the name of consistency is it possible to split Relapse and Recovery up? I know Relapse and Relapse 2 were supposed to be released kinda as a co-joined thing but it's gone past that now. Shouldn't one heading be something such as "Relapse & Relapse: Refill" then have a second heading "Recovery"? That way we split the 6th and 7th albums right now it just seems confusing and more of a timeline of the rumors on Recovery then actual facts once everything became more solid. Is it possible to get rid of the speculative stuff and have just a recovery piece? That way once sales and stuff come in it'll be easier. Also i Eminem tweeted that the music video for the the next single "No love" is in the process of being shot and that they got lil wayne's piece done before he went to prison. I don't know if that's entirely relevant to this particular page or more to the recovery one but i figured i'd throw it out there for anyone who wanted to look into it. I'd doing this all myself but i'm very new to wiki and don't really know how to go about fixing the page or have a lot of time to learn. Hope it helps. Sourcing, et. al. for "Number-one singles" section

The article currently has a table of some peaks from some charts for some songs, in the Number-one singles section. This lets us show some of that notability Eminem has, because he's had so many chart-toppers. But I'm wondering: do we need this?

Several things bother me about this table (apart from it not being regularly used in other articles, although I have seen it elsewhere):

  1. It is completely and entirely unsourced.
  2. It is incomplete, in that it only shows some charts. We use the limit of 10 recommended by MOS:DISCOG, but that leaves several notable charts out of the table, making comparisons or cumulative statements difficult. Are two No. 1's in Italy more interesting than two No. 1's in Sweden? Sweden's just been replaced with Canada; is this a good choice? Why or why not?
  3. The notability of Eminem's number of No. 1 or top-ten chartings depends a lot on how it compares to other artists, which isn't shown here. Who else has had seven No. 1's on the New Zealand chart? Who's had more? Is seven in NZ hard to do?
  4. It is completely and entirely unsourced.

So: Does this table really improve the article, or is it just another thing we have to keep updating and correcting? And if we want to keep it, what justification is there for not adding reference citations, like on every other article? — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 23:41, 24 July 2010 (UTC) and if this looks familiar to some of you, it's because I originally (and mistakenly) posted it to Talk:Love the Way You Lie 20:55, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

The D'Angelo Bailey thing was probably made up for his song "Brain Damage". Red Flag on the Right Side 05:14, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
It's not fictional. He later caught charges for defemation of character or something from D'Angelo, and during the trial Bailey admitted himself that everything in that song is true (except the part about his brain falling out obviously). If you watch any documentary on Eminem, you'll know about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.233.135.156 (talk) 23:42, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

However this article, at least, makes no mention of a coma. -Verdatum (talk) 18:11, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Edit Request: Another reference to Mariah Carey

In the new song "Cold Wind Blows" on the Recovery album, Eminem's lyrics are clearly directed toward Mariah Carey and his hatred towards her. Examples include: "fuck all that love shit honey, yeah I laugh when I call you a slut its funny...shorty dance while I diss you to the beat...this shit is on cause you went and pissed me off...take a look at Mariah next time I inspire you to write a song....I'll be nicer to women when Aquaman drowns and the Human Torch starts swiming...the last thing you wanna do is have me spit out a rhyme and say I was writing this and thought of you." List of Songs Referencing Eminem's Daughters

Can "Superman" be added to the list of songs under Family http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_(Eminem_song), her name is stated in one of Eminem's lines as the woman:

"Hailie Jade...I love that name, Love that tattoo...what's that say? rot in pieces' uhh that's great..."

Also...Haylie and Alaina are both listed as being mentioned in Going through Changes but so was Whitney (who is not listed as being mentioned in any songs on the page)

edit request: update 2nd paragraph of Family section

Please change this in the 2nd paragraph of the 'Family' section. Eminem adopted two other daughters: Alaina "Lainey" Mathers, the child of Kimberley Scott's sister,[133] who has been referenced by name in some Eminem songs including "Mockingbird", "Airplanes Part II" and "Going Through Changes"; and Whitney, Scott's child from a previous relationship. Whitney is mentioned in the song "Going through Changes." He is also the legal guardian of his younger half-brother, Nathan.

to this:

Eminem has two daughters whom he adopted: Alaina "Lainey" Mathers(nee Scott, May 3 1993) and Whitney Mathers(nee Harrter, May 26 2002). Alaina is the daughter of Dawn Scott, Eminem's ex-wife's twin sister[133]. She has been referenced in some Eminem songs including "Mockingbird", "Airplanes Part II" and "Going Through Changes". Whitney Mathers is the daughter of Kim and Eric Harrter. When Eminem remarried Kim briefly for 10months in 2006, he cared for Whitney as if she were his own daughter<r e f>http://rapdirt.com/kim-mathers-in-baby-battle-with-eric-harter/4648/</r e f>. After their second divorce in December 2006 divorce Eminem sought and was awarded full custody of Whitney; he then changed her name to Mathers. Whitney is mentioned in the song "Going through Changes".

In 1999 Eminem moved his 13 year old younger half brother Nathan(1986) in with him. Thank You. 69.243.24.147 (talk) 16:32, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

[This comment by 174.35.249.32 moved here from Talk:Eminem/Comments by JohnFromPinckney (talk), 23:32, 25 January 2011 (UTC))

The article has 1 MAJOR error- Eminem has NEVER lived in Detroit- he lived in WARREN, MICHIGAN. This can be verified by accessing articles on the sale of his boyhood home in the Detroit New and Detroit Free Press data base (can be found online through a google search). Warren is a city EXACTLY opposite of Detroit (like most of Detroit's surburbs. For example, in the 10 years Eminem grew up in Warren in the 80's there were less than 60 homicides- in Detroit there were over 6,000 murders. Detroit is consistently the most dangerous big city in America and Warren (like the other surburbs of Livonia, Sterling Heights, Troy, Southfield, Oak Park, etc) are at the top of the list for safest cities in America). Like Warren these cities go years without 1 homicide. (All Michigan State Police & FBI statistics). So the basis of the article's "street cred" is erroneous-it is promoting a myth and blatantly FALSE information as FACT. I.E.- it would be taking the FALSE stories from the journalist from the NY Times, USA TODAY, etc and re-publishing them in other newspapers as FACT-even though the information has been proven to be 100% made up. THIS SHOULD BE CORRECTED. eminems the best peace out —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.35.249.32 (talk) 23:14, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Not much to update yet; there's a guy who's supposed to start working on a script, with a first draft expected by February. Probably, the first draft will need work, rework, possibly replacement, etc. And even if all the principals love that first script without reservation, it will be some time before casting is completed and production begins. Until then, the project could collapse for many reasons, and any mention of it as an actual movie is counter to the concerns of WP:CRYSTAL. No need to hurry. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 11:41, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Please fix his chart

In this section http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminem#Number-one_singles pleaase remove he Hot 100 chart and insert the Rap chart. He is a rap artist & that chart is more indicative of his success.

Also, all throughout this article I keep seeing hiphop, instead of rap. He is a rapper, he music is rap not hipHop. Ive noticed alot of WP pages have hipHop listed instead of rap, perhaps because of the negatives assocaited with rap(violence, guns, cursing, drugs, misogynistic lyrics); but that is some of what is prevalent in rap. I dont think whitewashing is good at all. Yes rap is a branhc of hipHop, but the correct term for Em and his music are rap and rapper. 69.140.66.37 (talk) 08:11, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Being number one on a rap chart doesn't mean you have a number-one overall selling album for a country. Changing that would make the data not match the rest of the table. Information regarding performance on the rap chart may be more appropriate for the Eminem discography article.
If you'd like to enter the fray on the question of "Rap music" vs. "Hip hop music", I believe that belongs in the Hip Hop wikiproject. For the time being, the deliniation between the two is subjective, as is often the case with neologisms. Rapping is something you do with your mouth; that much is clear. So it is perfectly acceptable to say that Eminem is a rapper; he raps. However, the music he produces may be "hip hop music" or "rap music". The denotative difference between "rap music" and "hip hop music" is not clear. Rap music redirects to hip hop music. Unless someone can point to a clear and agreed upon guideline explaining when to use one term over the other, I feel it is not worth changing the article. It is just as likely that the next person will come along, disagree with rap, and want it changed to hip hop.
If you're curious, you may also want to look through the talkpage archives for this article. The matter of rap vs. hip hop has been brought up before. -Verdatum (talk) 17:52, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

? When I first got on here, it said Eminem started in 2000. What happened to that? It didn't have 92-96 and 97-99. It was right at first because Eminem wasn't pro in 96. He did rap compititions. He started in 2000 with the song Slim Shady. It was even on Youtube and Vh1. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.82.187.246 (talk) 04:02, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

the feuds section

I don't mean to insult anyone in particular, but whoever wrote parts pf the feuds section wrote it like they're on the street or something.

The information itself may or may not be accurate, but what I'm talking about is sentences like this:

Em had Lyrics such as "99% of my fans are blonde, Bis come on answer me man respond!"
made it clear that Eminem is ready for the beef to be taken to the next level

I'm not asking for Harvard class sentences, but I am saying that maybe making the article sound more objective and educated would make it easier to understand what exactly is going on. I haven't read the whole article, but this may apply to other parts. 76.169.201.253 (talk) 17:25, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

The excerpt is inappropriate because it is drawing inferences from Eminem's lyrics. There is no requirement for there to be any grain of truth in any of his lyrics, so the article cannot draw assumptions from them. -Verdatum (talk) 18:49, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
I took a closer look at the passage. Much of the content is from a fansite, canibuscentral.com. In fact, a lot of it is copy-pasted which is a no-no. Fansites are generally considered poor references. They should not be relied upon for anything remotely contentious. I sorta tried to remove most everything other than a listing of specific songs that make obvious references to each other. More editing can probably be done.
The other portions of the feuds section should probably be reviewed pretty carefully as well. -Verdatum (talk) 19:04, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Would this template be necessary? The songs listed in the template are also listed in each respective rapper template (except "Nuttin' to Do" on Royce da 5'9" template but it can be added if necessary) and the discography page is only linked to a section in the "Bad Meets Evil" article, which is also very small. Singles Sales

You have quite rightly given the number of albums that Eminem has sold but there is nothing of his singles sales. Other artists such as Lady Gaga(no disrespect) have their single sales mentioned however Eminem's sales have not. Therefor His total record sales have NOT been mentioned so I would like to request that his singles sales are also mentioned as he has had quite a number of sales, Love The Way You Lie alone has had 9.3 million downloads/sales. I would like to urge the editor to please do something on the matter. You could just open his discography to check his singles with hyper links, click on them and check their total sales. 2011 album

Hey, I don't know why anyone added this yet, but there is a 2011 album coming out. Eminem has leaked songs such as "Difficult", "Things Get Worse" feat. B.o.B., "Cocaine" feat. Jazmine Sullivan, and the most notable being "2.0 Boys" with Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse. There is information about this on Yelawolf's article and something on Shady Records's article. There are plenty of sources, even on XXL's website, and I can probably get that for you guys if that is what we need to add the 2011 album to this article. TomUSA (talk) 22:35, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia! Eminem has said nothing about a new solo release. We can't have speculation, according to WP:CRYSTAL. However, it could help if you posted the links to your articles. They can't hint a new album. They have to actually announce it, or else we can't have it here. Thanks! —WIKIPEDIAN Penguin (♫♫) 13:18, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I got ya. I saw articles on XXL and other websites we could've used as references (XXL would be the only one I'd trust). But on Yelawolf's page it said an album would be called Shady 2.0 but I guess that's just speculation. Thanks, TomUSA My talk page 18:31, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I just read a few articles on what you are talking about. What Yelawolf and XXL are talking about is the new Shady Records roster, which introduced Slaughterhouse (who were previously signed to E1) and Yelawolf (previously signed to Columbia). As for the leaked tracks, their inclusion in a new Eminem album is pure speculation. Thanks! —WIKIPEDIAN Penguin (♫♫) 19:32, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I'll add something when I find a valid source on another album. But for now, I think we should add something about the song leaks, no? TomUSA My talk page 20:05, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Per WP:LEAK states: "The date an album [or any other media] was leaked onto the Internet is not notable unless it results in some other action that is notable." That means that if the songs you mentioned have effected/provoked other events (lots of media coverage or important news from Eminem, etc.) than it may be worthy of mention. If you can find something like that and a reliable source, than put it in with explanation. Hope that helps.
WIKIPEDIAN PENGUIN (♫♫) 20:19, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is a helpful statement, and thank you. I added things about the songs I found, and just yesterday, I found a lot more. But for now, we should only add the "2.0 Boys" song because it did spark another event, and that was the performance in April, 2011 Eminem did with Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf. So for now, I guess tht's all we will ad, but whenever we can, we'll add something about the others, because it seems there's a lot going on in that industry right now, but not until something else happens... TomUSA My talk page 20:03, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

The Leaks

"Recently, Eminem has leaked several songs without making any announcements to them or proposing the release of an album. "Cocaine" featuring Jazmine Sullivan was leaked in December, 2010. Upon Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse signing to Shady Records in January of 2011, they collaborated with Eminem to make a song called "2.0 Boys"[115] performing it in April, 2011. Eminem also leaked "Things Get Worse" featuring B.o.B. and "Dudey" which is a tribute song to Proof."

Eminem did NOT leak, "Cocaine", "Things Get Worse", or "Dudey", those songs were leaked months (oct-jan) ago by "Koolo", owner of studioleaks.info. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.164.0.165 (talk) 21:48, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Of all of them, only "2.0 Boys" is worth mentioning at all, and even that I am a bit doubtful of. So I removed all the other songs from the page. WIKIPEDIAN PENGUIN (♫♫) 13:26, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Eminem didn't leak "2.0 Boys" but the other songs were leaked by someone. That's my point. But "2.0 Boys" really is the only one worth mentioning, and I think it would be a non-album single if anything. TomUSA My talk page 19:28, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Eminem VS Moby

There is a fued that is not noted in the fueds section, and that is a highly notable fued with techno singer Moby. Eminem stated in "Without Me": "And Moby? You can get stomped by Obie / You 36 baldheaded fag, blow me / You don't know me, you're too old, let go / It's over, nobody listen to techno!"

Also, please view these links: [3] [4]

Someone who knows more about this should add it, I only know a little about the fued. Thanks, TomUSA 02:42, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Eminem saying something rude about somebody does not constitute a feud. If it did can you imagine how large the section would be? 98.244.116.15 (talk) 05:21, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Eminem has insulted many people and made long-going fueds. Moby was an actual fued that lasted a year, and if you read the links I put, it is a notable fued, or I wouldn't have bothered adding anything. If I thought him poking fun at celebrities constituted as a fued, then I also would have mentioned Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Michael Jackson, John Mayor, and a thousand more. Moby actually took insult to Eminem's mentioning of him in "Without Me". I just used the song as the quickest reference because Wikipedia already has an article on the song. Evil as an alias

Should we really put Evil under "also known as" for him? I mean in the song "Bad Meets Evil" Em and Royce both say "He's Evil, and I'm Bad like Steve Segal" It's never really been clearly stated who's Bad and who's Evil Rouse52794 (talk) 03:14, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

In this video, Eminem states himself "I'm Evil, and Royce is Bad" which would also give Royce the alias of Bad. For details, the video is uploaded by Eminem himself on to his own YouTube channel called "EminemMusic". TomUSA 02:30, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

He actually confirmed it in an interview with MTV RapFix a while ago before the "Fast Lane" video premiered. WIKIPEDIAN PENGUIN (♫♫) 14:21, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
I realize you can tell by the fonts used, but I don't think this alone would have been enough to denote who's Bad and who's Evil. But as I said, this issue is resolved so it's of no matter now Rouse52794 (talk) 22:26, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, the logo tells it all. Evil has the thick font with the backwards 'E' and Bad has the Medieval type of font which Royce uses. TomUSA 19:13, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Influences and rapping technique

The Influences and rapping technique section states: "Eminem has named several MCs who influenced his rapping style, in-addition to his mentor, Dr. Dre, who share the same type of music: thick, muscular loops that evoked the terror and paranoia that his music conjured"

There needs to be some clarity here. Firstly, the punctuation is overly complex. But in-terms of content there is confusion also. Dr. Dre undoubtedly influenced Eminem's music; not his rapping style. They don't rap very similarly at all.

The first part of the sentence is about rapping style; the second part is about production style. West eh (talk) 17:11, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

It later goes on to name the following MCs, but some of which were left out for unstated reasons. As for the punctuation in the sentence, that can be taken care of, but citing Dr. Dre as having the same type of music is clear to any Dr. Dre or Eminem fan that it is untrue. Their music is indeed different in lyrics, instrumental, and message. But there have been times in which the two rapped about the same thing as if to have known each other their whole lives (see Guilty Conscience (Eminem song) and I Need A Doctor). Dr. Dre can still be cited as an influence, however. TomUSA 02:35, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. There is an important distinction to draw here, which is at the source of the issue with this section. There is a big difference between rapping influences and musical influences. Rapping influence refers to inherited characteristics like cadence, tone, rhyme pattern, even rhyming words. Where musical influence is more about the production work or the relationship between artists. There is no dount that Dr. Dre has been a musical influence of Eminem. But he didn't influence his cadence. If anything, Eminem has influenced Dre's rapping (Eminem writes for Dre). Currently, the section reads "Eminem has named several MCs who influenced his rapping style, in-addition to his mentor, Dr. Dre, who share the same type of music: thick, muscular loops that evoked the terror and paranoia that his music conjured,[135] these influences included..." In order to seperate the two ideas (musical/rapping influence), I would suggest having the list of rappers first, and then a seperate paragraph discussing Dre's influence below. West eh (talk) 04:13, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
I've heard stories on TV about rpapers such as Royce da 5'9" talking about how they've seen Eminem "sit Dre down in the studio like a student," technically meaning that Eminem mentors Dr. Dre nowadays in the way that Dr. Dre used to mentor Eminem. No matter what, Eminem and Dr. Dre are still friends, and Dr. Dre has served as the ultimate influence for Eminem. It is pretty amazing how you start off as a kid stuck in your room listening to a rapper and years later become best friends with him. That's great. TomUSA 20:14, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Residence

Eminem lives on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, Michigan. [5]

Someone put in the infobox that he lives in Warren, Michigan. Warren is a suburb of Detroit, and Eminem grew up that during his teen years, but lives on 8 Mile Road in a neighborhood called Rochester Hills today which is in Detroit City itself. Not a suburb. Please view the link above, TomUSA 21:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Rochester Hills is NOT in the city of Detroit. It is a suburb about 16 miles north of Detroit. 8 Mile Road does not touch Rochester Hills whatsoever. -user:hsxeric 7/20/11

Then I have picked up an invalid source. The point is, he lives on 8 Mile Road in Detroit. Formerly Rochester Hills. I found that a couple days ago. It was my mixtake by finding the wrong link, but I read about it a while ago. During his career he moved to Rochester Hills but moved back. It was my fault, things are fixed up. TomUSA 19:27, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
I don't mean to disagree with you, but I find it very hard to believe he moved back to 8 Mile Road. Do you have any sources supporting this? I live in metro-Detroit (exactly one mile north of 8 Mile road) and Em shops at my work and I have not heard anything about this. To be honest, if he moved back there, he would be bombarded by people all the time. -user:hsxeric 7/24/11
Like I said, the source I picked up is old. I can find others, but none that back up him living in 8 Mile Road. We did not add him living on 8 Mile Road to the page, just him living in Detroit. Also, very interesting Eminem shops at your store. TomUSA 18:11, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Associated acts: Lil Wayne

In the associated acts part of the infobox, it listed Lil Wayne as an associated act of Eminem. They have done some work together, such as Lil Wayne's song "Drop the World" with Eminem and Eminem's song "No Love" with Lil Wayne, as well as a new leaked song I found called "Inkredible" by Eminem featuring Lil Wayne (not worth mentioning due to the past discussion). Just because of 2 notable songs they were together in, they are not associated completely. That is like saying Eminem is associated acts with Dido or Akon even though only one collaboration was made between that duo. Eminem & Lil Wayne may work more in the future, but until then, they are not worth listing as associated acts. TomUSA 18:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Then why is Eminem listed on the associated acts section of Lil Wayne? Shouldn't they delete that too? --Bobjonespie (talk) 22:29, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Done. "DTW" and "No Love" are the only major collaborations the two did. As for "Forever", it was a collaboration of 4, not proving in any way a close relationship between the two rappers. WIKIPEDIAN PENGUIN (♫♫) 23:04, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

'Slim Shady' alias

How could someone remove 'Slim Shady' from the infobox? It is his ultimate alter ego, any Eminem fan knows this, and anyone reading about Eminem on Wikipedia for the first time should know this. Please don't remove Slim Shady from the also known as part of the infobox. TomUSA 18:43, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I reverted it because that spot is reserved for stage names, not alter egos. As for Bad Meets Evil, that's an official act and one could consider Evil as one half of it. Though that is questionably removable as well. WIKIPEDIAN PENGUIN (♫♫) 21:32, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, Slim Shady may be more than a nickname, it is also an alter ego, but I've heard people refer to him as Slim Shady, and his works sometimes refer to him as Slim Shady, in the sense that they are 'one'. That is a metaphor from his creative sense, but he has been refered to as Slim Shady by himself, other rappers, and people I know. This is the kind of thing we don't need to source, it seems like non-Eminem fans even refer to him as Slim Shady. It's always been a nickname for him as well as a character, but it should be noted as a nickname as it always has in that infobox. TomUSA 23:31, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
You can try talking to Esanchez7587 as he made the first revert of that kind on this article. I now see what you're getting at. Also, another point I think Sanchez might be at is that the first sentence in the article already states that he is also known by his alter ego Slim Shady. Obviously, we can't be putting things such as B-Rabbit and Ken as the former is fictional and the latter is extremely minor. I hate to speculate, but Eminem could also be an ego with Marshall as the true self, like in "Beautiful". —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 07:00, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
I've heard things that Eminem says that his stage name is Eminem, but Eminem is an alter ego in itself. Honestly, I think I could find more users that disagree with Esanchez7587 than an amount that agree with him. I've been and Eminem fan for years, and I know Slim Shady is an alter ego, but he often refers to himself as Slim Shady. Songs where he calls himself Slim Shady without being the character are "My Name Is", "Role Model", "Almost Famous", "Talkin' 2 Myself", "Cold Wind Blows", "Untitled", "Like Toy Soldiers" (you see in the video in the newspaper "Shady Under Siege") and a few more. Songs where he talks about or through the alter ego are "3 a.m.", "The Real Slim Shady", and "When I'm Gone". Please consider adding Slim Shady back to the infobox. TomUSA 20:04, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
This is unnecessary anyway as the first sentence, "Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972),[1] better known by his stage name Eminem or his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer, and actor," already says that he is also known as Shady. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 20:14, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
For now, let's not add it, but please consider re-adding it to the page. I highly believe it should be listed because other than it being an alter ego, people refer to him as Slim Shady. Though I highly disagree with your view on this, I am proud to finally be working on WikiProject Eminem. TomUSA 02:48, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I finally took the time to read the template documentation. The doc states that the parameter (alias) is reserved for official stage names, not nicknames. Neither Evil nor Shady are considered official stage names of Eminem, even if they are constantly referred to with such names. His labels have never considered 'Slim Shady' as one of their acts. So the spot is reserved or artists that have gone through more than one stage name, such as Sean Combs (Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Diddy). —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 19:19, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

In alias/ also known as, please add: Eminem, Slim Shady, B-Rabbit and Jimmy (both from the movie 8Mile) This names can be found mentioned by himself on his albums tracks and are stage names. DisclosureFlow (talk) 17:35, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Once again,  Not done. #'Slim Shady' alias. This has been discussed. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 19:09, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Please change the age that Eminem's father left him from 18 months to 6 months. I just saw a 60 minutes interview with him, as interviewed by Anderson Cooper. He stated that he was 6 months old when his father left him and his mother.

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. - We'd need a link to the interview or something similar to be able to properly cite this statement. Avicennasis @ 03:53, 8 Av 5771 / 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Genre

I think we could be more specific with his genre. It's important for people reading about him to see the specific types of hip hop he does. It bothers me when it doesn't list all specific genres of an artist. I think it should say in the genres part of the infobox something like this: Hip hop, conscious hip hop, horrorcore, comedy hip hop, rap rock. Please consider this, TomUSA 02:20, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Also, for further details, I can list some songs by Eminem that fit the certain genres. His conscious rap songs include "Mosh", "White America", "Cleanin' Out My Closet", "Stan", "You're Never Over", "Deja Vu", "Going Through Changes", and "Not Afraid". His horrorcore songs show more in his 2009 album Relapse and include "3 a.m.", "Stay Wide Awake", "Same Song & Dance", and "Music Box". Also, Eminem has released many comedy hip hop songs, and during his traditional year he would have one comedy single per-album. For example, on The Slim Shady LP he had "My Name Is", on The Marshall Mathers LP he had "The Real Slim Shady", on The Eminem Show he had "Without Me", on Encore he had "Just Lose It", on Relapse he had "We Made You", and on Recovery he had "Untitled" at the end which fits more of a comedic tune. Finally, his rap rock songs off the top of my head inclue "Sing For The Moment" and "Won't Back Down" featuring P!nk. I think we should be specific with the genres on this page. You have an interesting point, but here's the issue: Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 19:51, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
OK. I think we should mention rap rock because it is its own genre. TomUSA 17:03, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Naw, that isn't a notable genre for his work. That would be for artists that have absolutely dedicated themselves to doing rap rock; Eminem hasn't done enough of those songs. Even if he did, that would still be too specific as alternative hip hop would be more suitable, but once again, that isn't his primary focus. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 17:10, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I noticed that on musician articles we technically focus only on the primary genre, such as hip hop. Eminem does do horrorcore hip hop, but it is still a subgenre, and thus is only mentioned as hip hop on his infobox. But horrorcore is something to put in the "3 a.m." infobox. I get it now. Besides, I only mentioned 2 rap rock songs, and I tihnk those are the only 2 rap rock songs he ever did. TomUSA 17:25, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
