I'll review this. ceranthor 20:12, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Prose

[edit]
Lead
  • "sandstone plains" - link to sandstone maybe?
  • "are found both within the calderas and along the outer flanks of the shield" - I think the word "both" is redundant
  • "Emi Koussi was active over one million years ago" - as you probably expected, I think it should be "more than", not "over"
  • I would add the volume figure in the lead too
Done. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:31, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Geography and geomorphology
  • "Emi Koussi is the highest of these Tibesti mountains" - super redundant phrase here... better to combine with the intro of the mountain range name
  • "exceed 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) height.[5]" - is "in" missing before "height" here?
  • " Tibesti Mountains.[4] Emi Koussi is the highest of these Tibesti mountains[5] and thus of the Sahara;[6] many mountains of the Tibesti exceed 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) height.[5] These mountains " - "mountains" is repeated quite a lot in close proximity; anyway to rewrite these sentences to reduce that incidence would be great for flow
  • " the Tibu people lived in its summit caldera of Emi Koussi[9] " - why is "of Emi Koussi" necessary?
  • "Supposedly the entire Tibesti can be seen from the northern summits.[14]" - according to whom, exactly?
  • "ellipse-shaped caldera" - I'd replace "ellipse-shaped" with "elliptical"

More to come. ceranthor 17:50, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Got these. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:31, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Geology
  • "already between the Carboniferous and the Cretaceous.[5]" - a general time era (X to Y million years ago) would be helpful to a lay reader here, I think
  • "far-field tectonic effects of the collision between African and Europe have also been advanced as an explanation.[26]" - perhaps add a footnote or parenthetical to briefly explain the jargon of "far-field tectonic effects" here?
  • "The latter crop out at the southwestern foot of Emi Koussi, while volcanic rocks dominate north of the volcano and the Tibesti massif is prevalent east and southeast of Emi Koussi.[24]" - nitpick, but I think a comma would be useful before "and the Tibesti massif is prevalent..."
  • "also form the groundmass of or microliths in erupted rocks.[28]" - is the "or" here a typo?
  • "Rocks from Emi Koussi were used as raw material by Neolithic societies of the region.[29]" - any idea what for? ie. housing, weapons?
Got them, I think. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:31, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Eruptive history
  • "Emi Koussi erupted between 2.4 and 1.3 million years ago,[37] it is considered to be of Pliocene-Quaternary age.[38]" - this should be a semi-colon rather than a comma; as is, it's a run-on sentence
  • "Radiometric dating has yielded ages of 2.42 ± 0.03 million years ago to 2.33 ± 0.09 million years ago" - elsewhere you've used ENdashes, but here you spelled out "to"; you should be consistent throughout the article
  • "1.4 ± 0.3 to 1.32 ± 0.2 million years ago;[13][41]" - same note as right above
  • "Emi Koussi is considered to be a Holocene volcano,[45] lava flows have buried Holocene diatoms beds in its caldera" - this is a run-on
Got these. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:31, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Climate and vegetation
  • "Cattail and water milfoil grew around the lake.[32]" - "grew", or "grow"?
  • " Erica arborea is found to elevations of 2,900 metres (9,500 ft)" - "up to" this elevation, or "above and including this elevation"?
  • "which allow the development of a particular vegetation.[59][23]" - nitpick, but switch so that the ref order is ascending like the rest of the article
  • "over 3,800 kilometres (2,400 mi) away " - more than, not over
"Grew", as it's a former lake. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:31, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Earwig's tool
  • Checks out!
Spotchecks
  • "Emi Koussi lies in Chad, Africa, and is part of the Tibesti Mountains[3] as well as its highest peak[4] and thus of the Sahara;[5] many peaks of the Tibesti exceed 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) in height.[4] " - [3] checks out, [4] checks out, taking [5] on good faith since my German isn't good enough
  • "North of Emi Koussi lie other volcanoes, such as Tarso Ahon and Tarso Emi Chi,[23] the former of which is connected to Emi Koussi by a narrow ridge.[10]" - [23] checks out, [10] on good faith
  • "Emi Koussi erupted between 2.4 and 1.3 million years ago;[37] it is considered to be of Pliocene-Quaternary age.[38]" - [37] checks out, [38] does as well
  • "Early in the Pleistocene, erosion took place on the flanks of Emi Koussi,[4] and trona was deposited in Era Kohor until recent times.[45][46]" - [4] checks out; don't see [45] mentioning trona, and then taking [46] on good faith
  • "Generally, in the Tibesti vegetation occurs in five different belts depending on elevation.[54]" - checks out

Once the [45] comment is addressed, happy to pass this. ceranthor 15:06, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Source Comments
  • Unsure about the reliability of peaklists.org. Is there another more reliable source that could replace it?
  • Ref 18 - "CHRONIQUE GÉOGRAPHIQUE"." should follow the same capitalization pattern as the other sources; ie. no ALL CAPS
  • Ref 30 is missing some source info (ie. title, etc.)
  • Author in ref 45 shouldn't be capitalized
  • Refs should either have all author first names as initials or the full first name
  • " "NOTES ABOUT ASPLEN/UM I. ASPLEN/UM QUEZEL/1, A PSEUDO-ENDEMIC SPECIES IDENTICAL WITH A. DAGHESTANICUM (ASPLENIACEAE : PTERIDOPHYTA)" (PDF)." - standardize the all caps here
  • Why are there two sources sections? Why not just combine them?
Got most. Um, is source #30 now fine? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:00, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Can you add the title, "Saharo-Sudanese Neolithic"? Then it should be fine. ceranthor 13:59, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
