Emery Kaserne (Barracks) 1965-1966
[edit]I was stationed there in 1965 and 1966 and was assigned to the 69th Artillery Group Headquarters, a Hawk Missile unit. We were part of the 32nd Army Air Defense Command headquartered in Kaiserslautern, Germany. We operated the airfield on top of the hill and had a U-6A Beaver and O-1A Bird Dog fixed wing aircraft and one OH-13 Bell helicopter for transporting parts and senior officers. The Aviation Unit had three pilots and six enlisted men. We shared the airfield with the City of Wurzburg that had a glider club using it on good weather weekends.
Emery housed an infantry unit, I think it was 1st Army. I recall an EM and NCO club, probably an Officer's Club as well but all were small as the base was tiny compared to Leighton Barracks across town. Leighton had a PX that was a main source of smokes and booze - no state or federal taxes. 76.144.152.249 (talk) 16:13, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
