Requested move

[edit]

Emergency (disambiguation)Emergency – The rationale listed for moving the disambiguation page to Emergency (disambiguation) was "This is a disambiguation page," but disambiguation pages are free to be at the unqualified title when they do not interfere with other articles or redirects. Emergency is now a transwikied dictionary definition. I feel that this disambiguation page should probably be moved back there. Dekimasuが... 08:46, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, per Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Page naming conventions. I'll add an entry for it at WP:RM.
Just to give a bit of context, the original page move was (I'm assuming) part of this project: User:The Transhumanist/Help me 2, with some ongoing discussion at User talk:The Transhumanist/Help me. This is a fairly unique case/project, so I think it merits additional discussion. --Quiddity 02:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  2. Support I think this move should be clear-cut, but the 'Help' project as a whole would benefit greatly from additional feedback. --Quiddity 02:34, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support and I see that the page at Emergency has been prod-ed. *Mishatx*-In\Out 05:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

Moved early, based on consensus/lack of participation, and the target page was already prod'd. --Quiddity 20:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some direction needed

[edit]

For some time, this was purely a disambiguation page. Recently, content was added to the top (and there was some re-organizing of the dab entries too). As it stands now, this page is somewhere in between an article and a disambiguation page. But the MoS:DP guidelines will not allow this to continue to be the case, hence the recent "cleanup" tag addition. Some direction is therefore needed. If the intention is to expand this to a more complete article on the topic of Emergency then much of the rest of the page will need to be transfered to Emergency (disambiguation). The alternative would be to remove the content at the beginning of the page, and essentially revert the page back to a pure disambiguation page (keeping with MoS guidelines). I do not have a strong preference myself, but I think we do need to move in one of the two directions. --Paul Erik 01:54, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personally i think it is logical to make this an article, and port the links out to Emergency (disambiguation) as an Emergency is clearly a describable event andc therefore worthy of an encylopaedia. Owain.davies 08:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what an article about "emergency" would be about, that isn't already covered in one of the pages linked from here. We can't just describe the word (per WP:DICDEF). Hence my cleanup edit.
However, if you want to try to change/discuss policy (for this particular group of pages), you might want to talk to User:The Transhumanist who has been working to overhaul various "help" related pages, as described at User:The Transhumanist/Help me 2. I don't know if the direction he has been taking the pages in will gain consensus, but he would know where the past discussions are (I think he brought it up at the villagepump somewhere. As well as at User talk:The Transhumanist/Help me). --Quiddity 17:51, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The recent edits and reverts reflect the ongoing uncertainty about whether this is an article or a disambiguation page. One of the reasons I (and, I suspect, Quiddity) have not just moved the disambiguation elements to Emergency (disambiguation) is that we already went down that road in mid-February when The Transhumanist did that, with the intention of turning this page into an article, but that article was never made into more than a description of the word emergency so we reverted back to the situation we have now. Unless someone demonstrates how this article is to be expanded, then I believe we are left with having to keep this a disambig page like this; that is, a page that follows MoS:DP, whose goal is to allow for easy navigation to the article the reader is seeking. --Paul Erik 15:29, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me have a go at writing an article in the next week. If it works out to be too difficult then make this the disambig page, but i think i should be able to make the basis of a reasonable article. Owain.davies 17:26, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New direction for 'Emergency'?

[edit]

OK, as promised, I have been working on a suggested article structure for the page 'Emergency', with the aim of moving the current article out to Emergency (disambiguation). Please have a look at my suggested article (in my name space) here. I appreciate that it is not perfect, and importantly not finished, but i think it strongly shows that emergency deserves it's own encyclopaedia article, not just a dab page!

Please let me know your comments. If I don't get any, i'll effect the change next week some time. I look forward to your input!

Owain.davies 07:13, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a great start. I am in favour of having that here, and having the disambig entries at Emergency (disambiguation).--Paul Erik 07:22, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I support that too. Great work! Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 09:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can also include some of my admin coaching assignment, which is on Emergency. You can find it at User:Extranet/Admin coaching/Assignments/Emergency (also posted on Owain's talk page). Extranet talk 02:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, having an article is superior than just a disambiguity page. Now we can have both. Good plan, and good work! I fully support. The Transhumanist

Done! - In the face of 100% support from other wiki editors, i have put my template in to this article, and moved the previous content to Emergency (disambiguation). The dab page is likely to need some clean up now, but I'm no expert at these pages. I hope everyone is happy with the structure of my article, but i know it needs expansion. I'll keep adding stuff, and look forward to seeing some other comments. For those people who are interested, I'm now going to try and do the same thing for Hazard

Thanks for your support, Owain.davies 17:07, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Terminology Abuse

[edit]

I have often heard the word emergency used where there is no immediate threat to live or property, but rather the word is ued in place of urgent. For example something has gone haywire in a computer system, or an authomobile, and since we depend on that technology every day, we consider getting the situation fixed to be an emergency. User:AlMac|(talk) 22:39, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

this is covered to some extent under 'Personal Emergencies' at the bottom of the article. the trouble is trying to write this in an encyclopaedic way, maintaining NPOV. Owain.davies 05:52, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tech

[edit]

Shouldn't Engineers be included? Tecnical resources play a key role in emergency management (eg. defective equipment, ect.) --Defender 911 16:53, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is that not covered under the last section of "Agencies involved..." where it talks about civic utility engineers etc.? If not, it seems relevant - what were you thinking of? Owain.davies 16:59, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, yes. That was what I was thinking of. Mush have missed it. Thanks! --Defender 911 17:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Emergency action principles (EAP)

[edit]

The only mentions of "Emergency action principles" that I've found online have been related to first aid training. The phrase doesn't appear to be used for any other type of emergency response, so the current, more general section in this article appears to fail WP:VERIFICATION. Please add additional footnotes to verify its content or consider re-writing the section entirely. G. C. Hood (talk) 02:00, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Emergency sanitation

[edit]

We now have an article on emergency sanitation. I would like to see the terms water and sanitation mentioned at least once in this article and a reference be made to emergency sanitation. But I am not sure how and where. Perhaps those who have worked on this article in the past have an idea. For now I will add it to the see also list. EMsmile (talk) 15:37, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
