I don't see how the statement that the lyrics are specifically about a homosexual relationship is documented. Here are the lyrics:

Staring all alone And your grace and style Cut me to the bone With your razor blade smile I watched you playing pool It's all around the school that I love you I love your gypsy hair And dark brown eyes Always unprepared For your pointed replies Cynical and lean I lie awake and dream about you If you only knew What I'm going through Time and again I get ashamed To say your name It's hard to grin and bear When you're standing there My lips are dry I catch your eye and look away Sitting in my room I've got it bad Crying for the moon They think I'm mad They say it isn't real But I know what I feel and I love you But I would give my life For a single night beside you © 1979 Big Pig Music Limited/EMI Music Pub. Sure, Elton is gay and I don't know whether the co-writer who wrote the lyrics is gay or not, but I have always liked this song, and I think it could just as well apply to a heterosexual love, so I disagree that the lyrics are specifically homosexual... (Whether or not the video portrayed the song as pertaining to a homosexual relationship is one thing, but I'm referring to just the actual song.) 97.96.64.60 (talk) 13:01, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello anyone who was working on this page the third link ^ ELTON JOHN: Elton's Song leads to a shopping page so I have removed it.--Soxrock524<

I agree that the lyrics could be ambiguous, but the book Rocket Man, which discusses many of Elton's songs, has this to say: "Written with British activist Tom Robinson ('Glad to be Gay'), the song is about Elton. The video casts it from the eyes of a boy who has a crush on an older youth. At the time, Elton referred to it as one of his finest compositions." From the Google Books preview, pg. 175. I think that passage makes clear that the song does imply a same-sex "crush". Sacxpert (talk) 05:45, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
