Based on a 1990 Boston Globe article that mentioned her age as 71 and several sources that state she was 75 when A Garden of One's Own was published in 1994, I think it's a safe guess that Elsa Bakalar was born in 1919. As of January 2008, she was known to be residing in a nursing home and she is not listed in the Social Security Death Index yet, so she is probably still alive. --Oddharmonic (talk) 03:27, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
