Please don't redirect article

Resolved

I'm going to try to rewrite this article from a non-fictional perspective with sources, etc. It will most likely take a few days, so I'm requesting that in the meantime it is not redirected to Frozen (2013 film) page. Thank you, --1ST7 (talk) 06:34, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) states that "significant coverage in independent secondary sources" makes an element of fiction notable, and in this case there are more than enough sources that can be used for the article. --1ST7 (talk) 00:54, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing work! I am truly impressed. I would award you a Disney Barnstar if there was one! :) Blake (Talk·Edits) 22:21, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Title of article

[edit]
Resolved

A few days ago, someone changed the title of this article from "Elsa (Disney)" to "Elsa the Snow Queen (Disney)". I think either the "Disney" part or the "Snow Queen" part should be removed, as only one is needed to clarify who the character is. Personally, I am in favor of the original version - Elsa (Disney) - because it corresponds with how most of the Disney princess articles are titled. See Rapunzel (Disney), Snow White (Disney), Merida (Disney), Belle (Disney), and Tiana (Disney) for examples. --1ST7 (talk) 19:35, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is Anna the 12th, or are they both #13? -- Zanimum (talk) 18:17, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anna is 12th and Elsa is 13th. --1ST7 (talk) 20:33, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well-written:

Verifiable with no original research:

Broad in its coverage:

Neutral:

  • Very much so. "Reception" section is unbiased and wide in its coverage. I have taken the liberty of dividing the area in which critical reception is directed particularly towards Menzel's singing and "Let it Go" into its own subsection because it is quite large and detailed.--Changedforbetter (talk) 19:30, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stable:

Illustrated, if possible, by images:

  • Also well-done with this. Five very good, tastefully used images.
Thank you very much for the review! I've made the suggested modifications. --1ST7 (talk) 22:25, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well then, I think our work here is done and its a definite pass and, if I say so myself, a potential featured article. Good work!--Changedforbetter (talk) 04:34, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! --1ST7 (talk) 05:12, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Currently", "Formerly", "Deceased" as descriptors in article infobox

[edit]

I removed those terms from the infobox [1] as those terms don't belong when describing fictional characters. The article should be correct for each instant of the film when the film is viewed as described at WP:Writing better articles#Tense and WP:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction. Elsa's parents were described as "deceased" in the infobox when they were both shown to be alive for the first part of the film - they died in a scene in the film and were living when the film started so "deceased" is incorrect when applied to the film as a whole. Also Elsa changes her title during the film so "currently" and "formerly" also do not apply to the film as a whole as in the film itself she is shown to be both. The fate of Elsa's parents

[edit]

In this recent Reddit conversation, the fate of Elsa's parents was revealed by Frozen director Chris Buck: "they didn't die on the boat. They got washed up on a shore in a jungle island. The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard." Does that make Tarzan Elsa's sibling? Kailash29792 (talk) 17:01, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And as explained at the link, Buck was not serious. Doesn't belong in this article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:19, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

#GiveElsaAGirlfriend

[edit]

I removed this from the article, even though well-referenced in a reliable secondary source as I considers this trivial for this article - a minor social media flareup that we don't need to document and perpetuate. This has nothing to do with the character as currently portrayed in any of the official works she appears in. This is not a controversy about this character but about a wider social issue. Adding it to this article is WP:UNDUE weight. The actress made a diplomatic response and the "wacky religious people" made their expected response. We should leave hashtag created issues out of articles unless there is widespread coverage in reliable secondary sources that show this is a real notable issue and not just the typical dustup between the normal social opponents. Should I include Elsa in folk fictions?

[edit]

Elsa appears in many different fictions online, should I put them on here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitochondrions (talkcontribs) 23:46, 9 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An editor is changing "heiress to the throne" to "heir apparent to the throne". The original wording was a generality on purpose as rules of succession were never specified in story. Heir presumptive is almost certain given the story is in a fictional Scandinavian country in the 1800s where male preference primogeniture was standard until about 1980, heir apparent required absolute primogeniture which is almost risible to consider for the times. Still it is WP:OR to specify, Disney could do what they want and ignore historical reality, and the issue never came up in story as Elsa only had a younger sister, not a brother where it would have mattered. The current wording is sufficiently descriptive to tell the reader what the situation was without going into unnecessary details that really don't matter to the story at hand. Elsa's Birthdate

[edit]

According to a tweet by Jennifer Lee on 21st Dec, 19, Elsa's birthday falls on 21st Dec. Tillu Talla (talk) 03:51, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in any the films she appears in and conflicts with what is shown in the films based on coronation and coming of age. Year not mentioned anywhere. Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:58, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that Elsa's birth year is not mentioned anywhere. I am sorry for my mistake. But Elsa definitely was born on 'December 21'. As this fact was tweeted by the writer and director 'Jennifer Lee'. For those who saying that her birthday falls on Winter Solstice, sure it does, but December 21 was the day of winter solstice in whichever year she was born. Therefore there is no confusion between the birth date. She definitely was born on December 21 as a person can have only one birth date. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tillu Talla (talkcontribs) 07:08, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

She said winter solstice which varies between Dec 21 and Dec 22 depending on the year which was not stated. Saying 21-22 is stating a range of two days and is reasonable given the uncertainty. See this edit summary where the change was made from Dec 21. Geraldo Perez (talk) 07:21, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Elsa's Age

[edit]

Many articles claim that Elsa is 21 at her coronation, but the film does not state this and may reflect a modern understanding of adulthood without taking into account the research of the filmmakers. The comparatively recent setting of the films (Frozen II establishes that the parents' death occurred after 1860--the date on the map they had on their fatal voyage) may validate this. I wonder about it because in Thomas of Woodstock, Richard II of England believes that he is nineteen years old, and when he finds a birth record showing him an earlier birthdate making him twenty, demands that his uncles allow him to assume administrative duties, accusing them of concealing his true age to keep him off the throne longer, but they deny this and immediately rescind duties to him. There is no evidence that Richard did this in real life, but the unknown playwright did not invent the earlier recorded birthdate, which most historians consider spurious and unlikely that Richard himself knew about. It is a particularly memoorable scene in a very good play, though. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 06:10, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The ages for Anna and Elsa are well-sourced in Frozen as 18 and 21 for the coronation. Geraldo Perez (talk) 06:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
