Auckland City Council 1913 Election of Ellen Melville
[edit]See Elizabeth Yates, elected as Mayor to Onehunga Borough Council (which was certainly a municipal authority) in 1893, and as a councillor 1899-1901. This well before 1913.
Possibly Ellen Melville was the first elected to a city council? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carid23846 (talk • contribs) 12:05, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Good catch! Her DNZB entry says city council, so I agree, and have gone ahead to make the edit. I think the Book of NZ Women might say municipal authority, but if so it is evidently incorrect. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 19:25, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
