Name

[edit]

Does anyone have a citation for the explanation that Elizabeth Street is named after the wife of Governor Bourke?

There are four parallel streets in the Hoddle Grid named, in order: King, William, Queen, Elizabeth. The naming was clearly intended to be understood as a reference to King William and Queen Elizabeth. It may also have been a piece of vanity on Bourke's part, but it's pretty obvious (to me, at least), whom you're supposed to think it's named after. -- De Guerre (talk) 23:49, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation style

Note: There is a proposal at WT:AURD#Move_articles_to_bracket_disambiguation to rename this article (and others) to conform to the WP:AURDNAME guideline – specifically, using brackets instead of a comma for disambiguation. - Evad37 [talk] 08:43, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
